A local blogger has caused a bit of an Internet stir by portraying members of the new Wake County school board majority as wanted criminals.
In a blog post Monday, Clyde Smith put up photos of all five board members with their names and the caption "Wanted For Crimes Against Wake County School Children." The Raleighwood blog tells you to click on the photos "to reveal the inner thoughts of a resegregationist." He calls them "The Resegregationist 5.
Clicking on the photos brings you to a google link with pictures of lynch mobs.
The Morons in Chapel Hill web site responded with a post accusing Raleighwood of promoting death threats. Smith responded with a post accusing Morons in Chapel Hill of spreading lies.
Regardless, tensions are definitely higher at school board meetings now. Even though the crowd was smaller, more security was present on Tuesday. A sign at the public comment signup table told people to show proper behavior during the meeting.
After the meeting ended, security escorted the board members to their cars.

Mr. Smith,
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 18:27 — nancyncYou are supposed to be an adult, not a adolescent having internet (and who knows where else) temper tantrums.
If you disagree with someone, get rid of the vitriol and speak like an adult. You might be surprised to learn that others would be willing to hear your side on an issue.
Until and unless you can be rational, you will continue to be seen as nothing more than an unbalanced person who lacks self control.
As distasteful as it is to me....
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 20:09 — truthBtoldthey are public officials who have created a toxic environment.
More than most of those here have said that the current tactics of the board are justified because that is what the old board did to them...(the eye for an eye argument).
I am thinking about the Obama "Change" Poster where he is wearing a Hitler moustache, or what is happening every 15 minutes on Fox News Network.
If you dish it out, you need to take it. Bad taste is bad taste. Bad behavior gets bad behavior.
Bad behavior
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 23:02 — SDR256And you're somehow defending bad behavior? Surely not. Not in any case. We all have to recognize that there will be things on which we will disagree, but talking about putting someones eyeballs on a stick I THINK, I would HOPE is something we should all agree truly is something that crosses the line. Right?
You must be joking. Toxic
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 21:23 — changewcpssYou must be joking. Toxic environment? Listening to parents, focusing on education, making campaign promises and acting on those promises is admirable. This joker has serious issues that no one should be subjected to.

Fri, 01/22/2010 - 21:25 — SideburnsI'm surprised anyone would defend this man. He has definitely crossed the line.
Clyde Responds: Your Note About Security is Misleading
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 13:41 — raleighwoodncThanks for giving an objective summary of some of what's happening.
However, by juxtaposing the increased security at School Board Meetings with the Resegregationist 5: Wanted for Crimes Against Wake County School Children campaign, it makes it appear that the security move was partly due to my actions.
I emailed each member of the Resegregationist 5 last night to let them know what I'm working on. I received replies from two of them, which will all be posted at raleighwoodnc.com, and it's quite clear that they had no idea that I'd posted any of that.
It was news to them so it's a separate issue.
I pose no security threat to anyone anywhere that does not attempt to directly physically attack me.
Though I think the Resegregationist 5 are scumbags, I also don't think they would go after anybody physically.
When I worry about physical threats, it focuses more on Art Pope and Russell Capps who have connections to all sorts of dangerous people.
Hopefully no one will get hurt by some nutcase or stormtrooper in this process.
But, if you are trying to hurt poor kids and something does happen to you, I won't be sad.

Fri, 01/22/2010 - 12:01 — LiveInWestCaryBlogs like the one Clyde Smith writes are unproductive and cause more division between "sides". I do not agree with the way in which the "majority" board members have conducted themselves since being elected into office but I DO NOT condone the actions of Mr. Smith.
Yes, we disagree about what needs to be done to improve performance among ED children in Wake County Public Schools but posting claims that the new BoE members are criminals and displaying lynching images when their pictures are clicked on is just poor taste. Such antics are a waste of time.
In law, defamation—also
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 11:13 — woodstockIn law, defamation—also called calumny, vilification, slander (for spoken words), and libel (for written or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image. It is usually, but not always,[1] a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant).
In common law jurisdictions, slander refers to a malicious, false and defamatory spoken statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism.
Who let him out of the woodwork?
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 10:39 — nancyncAmazing to think those kinds of things come from adults! Perhaps he was one in the audience during public comments that openly heckled speakers he didn't like, we all heard those.

Fri, 01/22/2010 - 10:01 — Duhhuh666This is what happens when the facts are not on your side, then the only thing you can do is character assination, rehetoric and sinsationalization. This is pathetic.

Clyde Smith may call the BoE
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 09:25 — woodstockClyde Smith may call the BoE members criminals, but I am pretty sure he is the one that will be facing charges.
Is he a member of the CCCAAC?
Wow
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 09:19 — SDR256This guy isn't doing his side of the argument any favors. He sounds certifiable. And even Matt Brown I would bet is cringing at having his name mentioned as a friend on this blog. (on the About page) Not exactly a glowing recommendation when you're associated with someone who thinks its an 'artistic/editorial' endeavor to run on for several lines about putting someone's eyeballs on a stick. Higher level thinking this is not.
School Board
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 09:16 — mommy59Earlier this week I said the school board is going to self destruct and people didn't get it.Look at how many of the board leave before their time is up.After being called criminals I think I would leave if I was on the school board.
I voted one of the new members just to let you know...
Check it out
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 09:22 — SDR256Did you check out who it was exactly doing the 'calling'? I would liken this story to an interview with the corner bum saying the world will end tomorrow. This person is just a nut case with a keyboard.
Huh....
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 09:06 — Bob_SconceWell, you know you're doing the right thing when the nutjobs start attacking you.
Not really.
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 14:35 — ConcernedParentSeveral of the most disliked members of the "Old schoolboard" (ones who are no longer in office) shared at BAC meetings and other committee meetings how careful they had to be, how the 911 operators recognized their voices, etc.
They indicated the threats were often quite disturbing. I'm sorry to see this happening already to the current set of members. I commend every single sitting board member for being willing to serve despite the costs.
It is very unfortunate and clearly both extremes have "nut jobs" and getting threats is not an indication of being right or wrong, it is an indication of taking a stand.
FAir 'nuf
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 21:26 — Bob_SconceI guess my bias is showing... I was equating "nut-jobs" with "left-wing nutjobs," ignoring the lunatics on the extreme right to whom the word also applies.
That's funny, Bob.
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 22:50 — jenmanThat's funny, Bob. Whenever I think of nutjobs, I think of right-wing nut jobs. It is interesting how our biases affect us. :-)
Well....
Fri, 01/22/2010 - 23:05 — SDR256I am confident we can all agree a nutjob when we see or hear of one of this extreme.
