WakeEd

The WakeEd blog is devoted to discussing and answering questions about the major issues facing the Wake County school system. How much will the new Democratic majority on the school board do to undo the changes made by Republicans since 2009? How will the new choice-based assignment system work now that the socioeconomic diversity policy has been eliminated? How will Superintendent Tony Tata lead the state's largest district through more budget cuts and possible layoffs? How will the board respond to growth and the school construction program?

WakeEd is maintained by The News & Observer's Wake schools reporter, T. Keung Hui. While Keung posts information and analysis on the issues, keep us posted on your suggestions, questions, tips and what you're doing to cope with the changes in Wake's schools.

Blaming Charles Meeker for high security costs at school board meetings

Bookmark and Share

The conservative Wake Community Network is laying much of the the blame for the $16,197 security bill at the July 20 Wake County school board meeting on Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker.

In a press release Tuesday, Wake Community Network Director Joey Stansbury accuses Meeker and the City Council of not doing enough to help Southeast Raleigh. Stansbury argues Meeker, a vocal critic of the school board majority, is creating "two classes of society" by pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into the Fayetteville Street 'Livable Street'  initiative.

"For Mayor Meeker, there are two downtowns, one for intellectuals to drink coffee and talk about how they care about poor black schoolchildren and the other one, dominated by streets such as Bragg and Bloodworth, where his rhetoric doesn't match reality," Stansbury says in the press release.

Stansbury cites Meeker's opposition to the board majority as one of the factors leading to the "chaos creation activities" that have led to the extra security.

Stansbury also targets the Great Schools in Wake Coalition, the state NAACP and school board members Carolyn Morrison and Keith Sutton in the press release.

Stansbury already previously blamed the NAACP and the GSIW for the rising security costs.

Some things to consider are that Stansbury is the campaign treasurer for school board chairman Ron Margiotta and the Wake Community Network will likely be a vocal player in the elections this fall and next year.

Stansbury only has it

Stansbury only has it partially right. Meeker has certainly played a role in inciting the ill-informed as evidenced by some of the barely literate meanderings of some on this very thread, but he is not soley to blame. It is obvious that Barbar, Petty and Brannon are at work too. Together they make a rather humorous quartet of bumbling race hustlers, feeding on ignorance to further their selfish and extreme left pursuits.

It would all make for good

It would all make for good theater, except that it is costing us $16K for each performance.

Perhaps it is not the

Perhaps it is not the taxpayers who should be footing the tab. It appears that Petty's church inspired the most recent arrestees to stage their rather weak protest -- including a minor that will now have an arrest record -- so maybe Pullen  needs to pony up and help with the expense.

This man brings the stupid

This man brings the stupid better than Dan Quayle's son brings the porn. Not withstanding the fact that this is a tempest in a teapot, this fubbly-phishfracker wouldn't understand our city's weak-mayor system if an urban politics textbook hit him on his buttocks. And, I don't know much about the mayor and his wife, but I'm pretty sure they have worked more for equality and equal opportunity than goofus-doofus who reached up his colon to pull out this nonsense.

???????????

Even I don't agree with

Even I don't agree with blaming Meeker for all this.  I mean, come on people!!  Meeker doesn't have that much "power".  Saying this, actually says that Meeker does have the power.  He doesn't!  Never will.

Stansbury is as dumb as

Stansbury is as dumb as Margiotta.

I have an idea, the City will close down all public housing in the SE area of the City and then they will 'redistribute' affordable  housing througout the county. Cary and Apex have to take their fair share of affordable housing.  This way dumba$$es like Stansbury can be 'satisfied' plus we achieve both objectives of neighborhood schools while achieving diversity iniatitves.

Think Cary and Apex will support this idea?   The school board majority and its supporters are all hypocritical dipshi__ts.

Think Cary and Apex will

Think Cary and Apex will support this idea?

Cary leaders have sought increases in the amount of affordable housing to promote economic, racial and ethnic diversity while also enlarging the pool of workers for local employers, including Town government.

The Town helps to provide affordable housing within its limits by providing funding assistance to developers and non-profit organizations to build low-cost housing and rental units.

Affordable Housing Programs

Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative (like healthy schools)

Note, note sure how long this will last ....conservatives may work to get rid of diversity in house too.

Weird how this is all coming

Weird how this is all coming from conservatives.

Wake school board secirity costs

..another thing to consider is that Stansbury is right about Meeker and that Meeker's wife on the school board is a bigger issue.
