It looks like we can finally put the Broughton High School parking lot issue to bed.
The Raleigh City Council voted 7-1 this afternoon to allow Broughton to build a parking lot with up to 100 spaces on the school's historic front lawn. It represents a victory for students, parents and staff over alumni who had opposed the parking lot request.
The lone dissenter today was City Council Thomas Crowder, a Broughton alumnus.

parking lot at Broughton
Fri, 11/07/2008 - 19:51 — ron robinson (not verified)Thank you Mr. Thomas Crowder for having the guts to say no to the parking lot at Broughton. Being a graduate and teacher there for years it should be limited to the kids that NEED to park there--ie the ones that have jobs after school ..Then you'd have plenty of spaces. The rest drive SUV's their parents buy them and fill with gas from creditcards their patents provide them and gab on cell phones their parents pay for and think they derserve the right to park. Let them earn the space by having a job..Ah I know the rest of the council probaly have kids that go there and NEED to park so they dont have the humbling experience of riding a bus or catching a city bus like we did in the 1960's. Thanks for Trying Mr. Crowder..
