North Carolina will have a different look on the road when it travels to N.C. State this weekend. ROBERT WILLETT
CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina will wear a new road uniform on Saturday when it plays at N.C. State.
The Tar Heels, who, of course, have long worn Nike gear, will wear what Nike describes as the “Nike Hyper Elite Road Jersey” and the “Nike Hyper Elite Short.” I don’t really know what “hyper elite” means, but Nike says the uniform offers “lightweight performance through sustainable materials.”
The shorts are made from 100 percent recycled polyester, while the jersey is made from “at least” 96 percent recycled polyester. According to the Nike’s release about this, “a logo inspired by each team’s home court appears on the jersey’s center chest, a piece of ‘home away from home’ to wear with pride.”
So in UNC’s case, we can guess the jersey will feature an image of the state of North Carolina.
Gonzaga wore its version of this uniform on Saturday during its loss at Butler. In addition to UNC, 10 other schools will also be wearing these at some point this season: Villanova, USC, Ohio State, Kentucky, Stanford, Georgetown, Duke, Texas and both the Baylor and Connecticut women’s teams.
