CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina vs. Kentucky is back on. Officially.
News that the Tar Heels-Wildcats series would resume has been out for a while now, and North Carolina coach Roy Williams even referenced it on his radio show recently, but UNC made it official with a press release earlier today.
Before this season, UNC and Kentucky had played each other for 12 consecutive seasons. The teams will play next season in Chapel Hill on Dec. 14, 2013. They’ll play at Kentucky’s Rupp Arena during the 2013-14 season, presumably in November or December.
Said Williams, in the statement UNC released: “I think it’s a great series for both schools and our fans as well as college basketball fans period. North Carolina and Kentucky have great traditions and, regardless of who you pull for, fans mark this as a must-see game on the schedule."
