CHAPEL HILL — Jerod Haase, who has spent the past 13 seasons as a member of Roy Williams’ staffs at Kansas and at North Carolina, will be announced on Tuesday morning as the head coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, according to the Birmingham News.
After his weekly radio show on Monday night, Williams declined to comment about the report. Haase didn’t return a message left on his cell phone.
Haase played for Williams at Kansas from 1994 through 1997, and then in 1999 joined Williams’ staff as an administrative assistant for the Jayhawks basketball program. He remained in that role until 2003, when Williams left Kansas for UNC.
During his nine seasons with the Tar Heels, Haase has served as both the director of basketball operations and as an assistant coach. He has been an assistant coach at UNC since the 2009 season. For the past five seasons, Haase has coached UNC’s junior varsity basketball team.
According to the Birmingham News, Haase will be introduced as the Blazer’s fifth coach during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
