WTVD to rebroadcast preempted "Modern Family"

Bookmark and Share

You know what's almost as scary as a cowering in your bathroom during a nearly statewide tornado watch? Missing an amazing "Modern Family" Halloween episode.

We're definitely not making light of tornados, but we were really looking forward to "Modern Family" last night, so that was a double bummer.

WTVD is making it right, though. They'll repeat the episode Friday from 2:05 am to 2:35 am (that means tonight after midnight for those of us who are time-challenged). Whatever your DVR or TIVO says is on during that time, record it.

All other ABC programming pretty much showed in its entirety last night, but if you're dying to see the first couple of minutes of "Cougartown," you can watch on the ABC website. And if you can't wait till tonight/tomorrow for "Modern Family, you can also watch that on the ABC website.

At least one Virginia did the same yesterday mid-afternoon

They spent about an hour discussing the weather in Greensboro, two and a half  hours away. Their endless chatter, constant bragging on themselves, and repeating the same thing 432 ways is annoying, but their thing was the storm was heading toward a part of Virginia. But, after hearing the screen described more ways than my brain has cells,  I think even my mediocre thinking could describe Doppler radar, and what the red means when it is alone, and the green and red together, etc.  These stations mean well, but they do overdo it, and in our case, with the dullest meteorogist at the station. A monotone voice to go to sleep by, but not one you really would want in the case of a true emergency.

If they had any actual news

If they had any actual news on the weather, it would be one thing, but all they did was give the same 45 seconds of information over and over again while telling us about their text services and how awesome their radar is. Meanwhile, we were missing the best one-two punch of comedy on the air with "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town".

If it was SO important to cover this "story", why was the NBC affiliate running regular programming with the weather on a text crawl?

It wasn't necessary for all the networks to pre-empt everything

WRAL bumped Criminal Minds as well for endless coverage of weather nowhere near us. Quite frankly, if there was a tornado nearby, I would be in the closet with a radio not sitting in front of the TV so this unending coverage wouldn't be useful even from storms in the area.

Put off too

I was put off too.  Most of the goings on were closer to Virginia than here.  Isn't there a station there that can handle it.  Furthermore, who the heck is going to be listening to a TV if they are 1. on the road during the storm or 2. in their house during the storm.   Chances are if the storm is on its way to a city that has been notified they are no long listening to tv and if the storm IS over their house, they know what is going on anyways.

BAD timing for re-broadcast

Yes, it WAS annoying to hear the same weather chat over and over again while Modern Family played out of state. And, my gosh, some of us DON'T have TIVO--can't afford it; lucky we can afford TIME-WARNER cable charges. Two o'clock in the morning is ridiculous--phooey on that. If it's not the stupid political debates during Jeopardy, it's the over-weaning weather alarms all during prime time. C'mon, TVD, broadcast Modern Family before 11 pm.

I was...

Irate when I hit play on my DVR.  That was almost as bad as when the ACC Tournament final was shown on a little screen in the corner a couple years ago due to thunderstorms.  Seriously, why not put the weather in the little screen in the corner and just have text at the bottom telling whats going on.  I may just start watching everything on the internet and take my business away from the local affiliates if they cant get it together.
