What to Watch on Wednesday: 'Idol' sings Sir Elton, 'Top Chef' crowns a winner

Bookmark and Share

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - This week, our local contestant Scotty McCreery gets the chance to countrify a song by British pop legend Elton John (right). What should Scotty sing? Our 'Idol' blogger Thad Ogburn suggests he stay away from "Crocodile Rock" and the entire Lion King canon, but took no official position on "Honky Cat" (I guess my favorite, "Levon," is a tremendous longshot). Two singers will be eliminated based on tonight's performances, thanks to Casey's "save" last week.

Survivor: Redemption Island (8pm, CBS) - Matt and Stephanie duel on Redemption Island, and information gathered there results in some castaways questioning tribal loyalty.

Mr. Sunshine (9:30pm, ABC) - Alice asks Ben for an assistant and he assigns Roman to the job, and the two form an unexpected bond. Meanwhile, Crystal arranges a funeral to honor a friend at the Sunshine Center and Alonzo admits the truth about a past relationship.

Top Chef: All-Stars (10pm, Bravo) - In the Season 8 finale, the two finalists (Richard Blais and Mike Isabella, left) try to cook the perfect meal, and a winner is revealed. All my favorites are out so I can't say I care who wins here. They are both excellent cooks, and they are both jerks.

Law & Order: SVU (10pm, NBC) - A young girl's body is found with a doll left as a totem, so police retrace her last steps, which included a lesson with her piano teacher (Elizabeth Mitchell). Jeremy Irons reprises his role as a psychologist, and helps the detectives decode the meaning of the totem.

Justified (10pm, FX) - Raylan must protect a coal executive who is in over her head when dealing with the Bennetts. Things are definitely heating up on this show, which was just renewed for a third season (woo-hoo!).

Coal (10pm, Spike) - The premiere of a new reality series following a West Virginia coal-mining operation.

Not a fan of Idol but have

Not a fan of Idol but have long been a huge Elton fan (Good call on "Levon" as that and "Daniel" are my favorites). If this kid is only about singing country he should do something off of "Tumbleweed Connection", maybe "Country Comfort" or "Ballad Of A Well-Known Gun."

Scotty and Elton

That's a good idea. I wonder if Scotty loses votes if he doesn't sing something well-known, though. I can't wait to find out which song he picks... I'm betting that rocker Durbin sings "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting."

Body of Proof

"Body of Proof" is in the same category as "Castle"--boring.  I hope ABC doesn't replace "Detroit 1-8-7" with this  yawner.  I am still on the bandwagon to keep "Detroit 1-8-7".

Also rooting for Detroit 1-8-7

Also hoping this show gets renewed -- I'll be sure and post something here whenever there's news. I thought they had a strong finale.

Delany's show will probably be successful just because I think she has a lot of fans. Maybe it'll get better -- keep in mind that I only watched the pilot.
