What to Watch on Thursday: You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.

Bookmark and Share

Christmas Unwrapped (8pm, Discovery) - The history of Christmas and how the beloved holiday changed the world, from its impact on the end of slavery to the invention of the artificial heart.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (8pm, ABC) - The Dr. Seuss tale about the Christmas-loving Whos of Whoville and the evil Grinch who tries to steal the holiday. This 1966 classic is narrated by Boris Karloff and features songs by Dr. Seuss (Theodr Seuss Geisel) and Albert Hague. Keep your ears open for Thurl Ravenscroft (aka Tony the Tiger) singing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch."

Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas (8:30pm, ABC) - After the classic animated version there's the 2000 live-action version with Jim Carrey in Oscar-winning makeup as the wicked green creature. It's not without merit, but the original is better (and shorter). You should probably just watch them both. Directed by Ron Howard and starring Christine Baranski and Jeffrey Tambor.
