Big Brother (8pm, CBS) - Three contestants are remaining and the final HOH is selected. The HOH will evict one person and then it's down to two. Come on, Jordan! So close...
Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - This new series should be a pretty hot commodity this fall. Vampires are all the rage right now, and CW's teen-friendly "Vampire Diaries" is actually pretty good. An orphaned high school student finds herself in a love triangle with two new vampires at her school: the "nice" one (Stefan Salvatore played by Paul Wesley), and his "evil" brother Damon (at left, played by Ian Somerhalder who was Boone from "Lost"). And where you have vampires, you have dead bodies. There are plenty of those in the first episode.
Supernatural (9pm, CW) - Season five opens with Lucifer being released from Hell and arriving on Earth. Sam and Dean learn that Castiel was killed by the archangels.

Supernatural
Fri, 09/11/2009 - 12:54 — coughlin_jakeSupernatural is one of those shows where you either "get it" or you don't. It's actually very campy and regularly pokes fun at itself. One episode had Dean waiting in the car so he did an "impromptu" air guitar performance that was HYSTERICAL! It was so good that at the end of the episode they showed a few of the out takes.
Anyway, the season premiere was very good. Battling Lucifer will be this season's theme. I am totally bummed that they killed Ruby because she was freaking hilarious (especially loved the blonde actress, the black haired actress not so much).
One thing I didn't understand... Castiel comes back from the dead (when did he die?) and the other angels are shocked and ask him how that's possible. His answer is pretty cryptic, something like "How do you think? How do you think the boys made it onto the plane?" So, I'm guessing he meant that God stepped in??? Anybody else know what the hell (heh! heh!) he was talking about?
Supernatural!!
Thu, 09/10/2009 - 13:31 — coughlin_jakeOOOOHHHHH!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED! I've known for years that Ruby was going to double-cross the boys, but having Sam drink her blood (hello vampire connection) so Sam could kill Lilith and raise Lucifer... precious!! And once you've raised Lucifer...if you kill him, where does the rest of the season go? If you keep him alive, we have to believe that Sam and Dean can actually battle Satan?
In other news...I agree with Brooke. I could live my entire life without another doctor show, lawyer show or cop show. Those themes are BEYOND tired; they need to be retired!
Cops and vampires
Thu, 09/10/2009 - 14:26 — brookecain (author)I wish I had been watching Supernatural. You make it sound good. Let us know what you think of Vampire Diaries (remember, it's more PG than True Blood).
I confess I have a soft spot for cop shows, especially Law & Order. But also Monk, The Closer, The Wire, The Shield, In Plain Sight, Durham County, Medium (sort of a cop show), etc ... I actually don't really care what the show is about, as long as it is good. I would welcome more doctor shows if they would make a GOOD one. But right now the networks are in blatant ripoff mode trying to spin out a hundred awful variations on Grey's Anatomy, which has seen better days itself. I'm betting all the new doc shows will suck.
I'm so tired of vampire shows!

Vampires suck ... but in a good way.
Thu, 09/10/2009 - 09:16 — brookecain (author)Dude! There are two! This makes the second one, after "True Blood," which most people don't get to watch b/c it's on HBO.
I'm personally tired of doctor shows. There are already about 15 on and there are 3 or 4 more new ones coming out this fall. But
I will never get tired of cop shows. I don't watch CSI at all, but I would probably watch 10 different versions of Law & Order.
