What to Watch on Thursday: Rush Limbaugh is fascinating because...

The Office and 30 Rock (9pm & 9:30, NBC) - Always good bets. The folks at the Scranton office fight about how to spend a $4300 surplus, and Jack goes with Liz to her high school reunion.

Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People (10pm, ABC) - Ready yourself for soft lights and lots of fawning. Babs interviews some of 2008's biggest names, but with 10 people in about 45 minutes, don't expect tons of depth. And there are always a couple of puzzling picks in her Most Fascinating list. Tom Cruise? Rush Limbaugh? Really?

Daily Show (11pm, Comedy Central) - Little Opie Cunningham (Ron Howard) promotes his new movie, Frost/Nixon.

I had to dive into basic cable to find a holiday special to promote today. I'm going with Polar Express at 8pm on Disney, with a runner-up nod to Tim Allen's The Santa Clause at 8pm (and again at 10pm) on TBS.

Man, I go to work and look at what I miss!!

I can tell you, I'm a Republican and I don't like RL as a radio personality. Maybe it's because I'm not old. :)

That's fine

My original post about the Walters show had nothing to do with liking or disliking Rush, or being a Republican or Democrat. I was just wondering what Rush (AND TOM CRUISE, and Will Smith for that matter) have done THIS YEAR that made them more fascinating than they were last year, or the year before. I guess I touched a nerve!! But I'm liking your theory about there being a possible correlation between liking rush and being old. That has cracked me up.

Ask Barbara

Brooke: You need to ask Ms Walters why she selected Rush. She originally chose RL for this annual list 16 years ago and now decided to re-list him.... His relevance for "her audience" is open to speculation. RL neither requested nor needs this exposure...... No doubt your N&O co-workers Jim Jenkins, Barry, Steve and Linda will eagerly devour every edited syllable and chortle their clever retorts. RL, as you may know, just signed a new 8 year contract. Wonder where all you N&Oers will be in 8 years?

whatever

I can't believe you're trying to pick a fight on the freaking TV Blog!!! That's kinda funny. What, are they ignoring you over at Dome?

I stand by what I said earlier -- I didn't write anything bad about Rush. If anything, I was poking some fun at Barbara Walters. But on second thought, I've decided Rush probably *is* very relevant this year, since he kept the Republicans out of the White House. That's power.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the show. I think Rush is on right after the pregnant man, but right before Barack Obama.

And once again, kudos for those positively Jesus-like wishes that even more people be unemployed soon.

Tom Cruise

... is really only interesting because of his incredibly cute daughter. And the sick fascination celebrity watchers have for dysfunctional marriages.

Turd-bo strikes again...

... and, what a surprise, Jeremiah Wright comes immediately to his fevered li'l mind while he faithfully defends his fellow Viagrite and beloved leader Rushbo. Hey Floyd, are you going to put a top hat on your white hood this Xmas and dress up as Frosty the Blowhard?

Brooke Brooke Brooke

Your overt partisan contempt for Rush might earn you a few extra days before the next inevitable N&O lay-off. Would Jeremiah Wright have been a better choice in your mind?

Don't forget Tom Cruise

I must have some partisan contempt for Tom Cruise, too, right? Remind me what that would be...

My point was that I can't think of anything Rush OR Tom have done THIS YEAR that has been particularly fascinating. I think just being famous, or maybe just the fact that Barbara wants to hang out with them for an afternoon, is the criteria for making that list sometimes.

If I was trying to be overtly partisan, I'd have made a cheap crack about Sarah Palin (who is also on the list, but understandably so).

But thanks for your holiday layoff sentiments!
