What to Watch on Thursday: OMG -- 'Scandal' is back!

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Season 5 begins with Elena and Caroline moving into a dorm at nearby Whitmore College and getting an unexpected third roommate. Meanwhile, Katherine pleads with Damon to help her now that she is human and vulnerable to her enemies.

The Millers (8:30pm, CBS) - This new sitcom, starring Will Arnett, Margo Martindale and Beau Bridges, has the honor of being my most hated new show of the season. Adrienne didn't hate it as much as I did, but she didn't like it either. Her review. "The Millers" has Arnett playing a recently divorced tv news reporter whose parents' marital problems intrude on his life.

Welcome to the Family (8:30pm, NBC) - A new series about a white family and Latino family who can't get along after their offspring decide to get married with a baby on the way. Here's Thad's unenthusiastic review of "Welcome to the Family."

Sean Saves the World (9pm, NBC) - A new comedy centering on a divorced father (Sean Hayes) trying to balance the demands of his life, which include a stressful career, a teen daughter and a meddling mom (Linda Lavin). Thad says it's a good cast in need of much better plots.

The Originals (9pm, CW) - This spin-off of "Vampire Diaries focuses on the original vampire family, who return to New Orleans to reclaim the city they helped build. In the opener, Klaus meets his former protege, Marcel, who controls the supernatural inhabitants in town.

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - New episodes are finally here! In tonight's third season opener, an unexpected allegiance forms in the wake of the revelation about Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn, pictured above) mistress, while a determined Rowan allows no one to prevent him from carrying out his orders. Joshua Malina narrates a special "Scandal" clip show at 8 p.m., highlighting major story lines from the series' first two seasons, including Fitz's shooting and Quinn's mysterious background.

Parenthood (10pm, NBC) - Jasmine and Crosby have their hands full as the baby's crying starts to have an effect on Jabbar. Meanwhile, Julia meets a school parent volunteer with whom she has much in common, and Hank visits Sarah and gives her advice about Amber.

Elementary (10pm, CBS) - A highly respected mathematician is murdered. Holmes investigates and tries to discover the purpose behind a guarded equation the victim was attempting to decipher.
