What to Watch on Sunday: Ken Burns delves into 1930s superstorms in 'Dust Bowl'

NOVA: Inside the Megastorm (8pm, UNC-TV) - Scientists tackle the question of whether Hurricane Sandy was a freak combination of weather systems or if hurricanes are increasing in intensity due to climate change. The special takes viewers moment by moment through Sandy, its impacts and the future of storm protection.

Oprah's Favorite Things (8pm, OWN) - Oprah highlights her favorite things for the holiday season and has a surprise giveaway for a group of military spouses.

40th Anniversary American Music Awards (8pm, ABC) - Scheduled performers include Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, and Christina Aguilera.

The Dust Bowl (9pm, UNC-TV) - The first part of a two-part, four-hour documentary series by Ken Burns chronicles the environmental catastrophe that throughout the 1930s destroyed the farmlands of the Great Plains, turned prairies into deserts and unleashed a pattern of massive, deadly dust storms that for many seemed to herald the end of the world. Part two airs tomorrow night.

Dexter (9pm, Showtime) - Dexter tries to keep his relationship with Hannah a secret from Deb, but that gets blown after a surprise visit from Astor, Cody and Harrison.

Holiday Spin (9pm, Lifetime) - A movie in which a former dance champion who was sidelined by an injury enlists the help of his estranged son to help him prepare for the Holiday Spin, a ballroom dance contest that takes place on Christmas Eve.

The Good Wife (9:30pm, CBS) - Will believes that a judge is biased against his client and demands a hearing to determine if another judge should take over the case. Meanwhile, Grace deals with the death of a classmate and Zach searches for a way to help his dad's campaign.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - Brody's juggling of alliances appear to be leading him to a major meltdown, so Carrie, against Quinn's orders, stages a dicey intervention. Meanwhile, a conflicted Dana seeks comfort from an unlikely source.

Treme (10pm, HBO) - LaDonna finally finds out what's behind all the threats she's been getting, and Colson's strained relationship with the rest of the police department comes with a personal risk.
