Must Love Cats (8pm, Animal Planet) - The third episode in this short series examines the origins of the comic strip cat, Garfield. Host John Fulton also looks at the ingredients in cat litter and meets a cat with four ears.

Area 51 (9pm, Syfy) - In this new Syfy movie, the Air Force bows to political pressure and allows a few reporters limited access to the secretive base, but things turn violent when a captive alien sees the visit as an opportunity to escape. Stars Jason London and Bruce Boxleitner.

Bruce Bruce: Losin' It (9pm, Showtime) - The outrageous comic Bruce Bruce brings his latest standup comedy special to Showtime, riffing on family, dating younger women, and church. Filmed in Boston at the historic Wilbur Theatre.

48 Hours Mystery: Live to Tell - Hunting Humans (10pm, CBS) - The North Carolina serial killer who targeted random women along the east coast is the subject of tonight's show. Hear the story of the 15-year-old Massachusetts girl whose family stopped his killing spree.

Film Independent Spirit Awards (10pm, IFC) - The 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards, a celebration honoring films by filmmakers who embody independence and originality, is hosted by Joel McHale. We have more on the Awards show and a live-streaming arrival pre-show.
