What to Watch on Saturday: Sports, violence, Palin!

Bookmark and Share

You should be at the State Fair, but you're not, so you might as well watch some television.

North Carolina at Virginia (3:30pm, ABC) - Carolina plays on "regular tv" today, so scoot over to Whole Foods now and get your wine and cheese so you can be all ready to see if the Heels finally break their losing streak in Charlottesville. We think this is the year, so get the good stuff. ALSO NOTE: Wake Forest at Maryland (12pm, CBS) and Miami at Duke (3:30pm, ESPNU).

Law & Order:SVU - This week's new episode reruns tonight on NBC at 10pm, but USA is playing 2008 episodes today from 3pm to midnight. And it's not even a holiday!

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays (8pm, TBS) - Will Boston pull out another miracle comeback, or will the Rays of Sunshine close it out tonight? Big game, big drama, Big Papi ... I think you should tune in.

Saturday Night Live (11:30pm, NBC) - You've heard the buzz ... Sarah Palin is scheduled to make a cameo appearance on SNL tonight. SNL is leaking nothing about what she may do on the show, but we're guessing she'll try to field dress Josh Brolin (star of "W"). If you can't stay up, set your DVR, because everyone in your office will be talking about this on Monday.

N&O should add digital station number to Channel Listings

Why doesn't the N&O publish "Digital" channels either in the Sunday/Weekday Supplements, or on a web page that can be easily printed out and used as a handy reference?  In addition to restoring the Cable Reference Guide on November 23rd?
This would be handy to "basic" cable subscribers without a more expensive "digital" set top box service, however have "Digital Receivers" built in (most of new Flat Screen TV's do).  Also, it would be handy for those who have use new digital ready Antenna Receivers.
One other thing is that it would reduce confusion and clarify what is "for free" and what is "not for free" for Cable Customers.  Some channels (like WRAL) are now advising on air that their shows can be watched at their digital location. Why not be part of the information path for this information too?
Example:  WRAL (5.1), UNCTV (4.1), NBC (17.1), etc.
P.S.  You could get fancy on an on-line version in that you could now list all the "multiple" or "sideband" shows that one Broadcaster has (e.g. Primary HD, Weather, News for ABC, CBS, NBC, PUBLICTV, etc.), or not, as the case may be.  However, for your newspaper print, you would just add the "primary" digital channel in parens under the channel name (e.g. WRAL (5.1)).

channel listings

Hi - I forwarded your suggestion to the listings folks here. I don't think there is room to print something like that in the paper, but maybe something could go online.
