It's showdown time. We had the fairytale proposal and now it's time for Jason to crush Melissa's dreams.
Chris brings Jason out first, alone. Jason starts telling Chris how great Melissa is and he starts crying immediately. "I've lived it" Jason says. But since the engagement, "things have been different, and we're not right for each other." He says they've spent a lot of time together, on trips and over holidays, and he says the chemistry is different. Well, who'd have thought things would be different in real life than on a reality show?
He says that Melissa knows that things feel different for him. But Melissa doesn't know she's about to get dumped.
Furthermore, Jason says, over the last few weeks he hasn't been able to stop thinking about Molly. "I've tried for Melissa's sake, but I can't." As soon as Molly left, he says he felt like a huge piece of him was gone.
That's right -- he's still in love with Molly (she told him he was making a huge mistake!). He says he hasn't talked to Molly at all since that day he let her go, because he wanted to try to make it work with Melissa. Chris asks him what he's gonna do tonight and he says he wants to talk to Melissa and let her feel how she feels. Are you going to end this (with Melissa) tonight? "I have to."
And about Molly - what is he going to say to her? Molly deserves to be angry, Jason says. But he hopes more than anything she still has feelings for him. He wants to "ask her for a shot."
But before he can ask Molly for his shot, he has to try not to get shot. They bring Melissa out and yeah, she's angry. She demands to know what she did, but he tells her it's not her, it's him -- and that he has feelings for Molly.
Now she's beyond angry. She wants to know if he's been talking to Molly and he tells her no. "You choose Melissa but you don't want to fight for Melissa." She goes on for awhile referring to herself in third person, about how he "put that ring on Melissa's finger," etc.
Jason tells her he's sorry but he can't control what he feels. "You're such a bastard" she says.
He keeps right on telling her how great she is and how hard he tried. "Why did you put a ring on my finger?" she demands. "Because I wanted to give you everything." She says she wishes that last day he had just let her go, instead of doing this to her, and she gives him the ring back.
Chris excuses himself to give them a chance to say their goodbyes. Jason tries to apologize again but she starts yelling, "good luck in the future, don't call me, don't text me, leave me alone," and she walks out.
Jason better be glad they live in different cities because she's rocking that "I'm gonna slit your tires" vibe.
In the limo, she says she can't be mad at Jason for not being in love with her - but she so is! Right now she is, and that's completely understandable. But she'll get over it.
So now we're back with Chris and Jason seems upset that he hurt Melissa. He cries and pours his heart out to Chris. "I never lied to her," he tells Chris.
Molly comes out and talks to Chris, alone, without Jason. She's doing "okay" but she's nervous to see Jason. She hasn't heard any of the drama going on with Melissa.
She talks for a bit about how surprised and hurt she was, and Chris is all coy when he asks, "Do you ever wish he'd change his mind?" Oh yeah. She obviously still loves him. She says nice things about Melissa and that all she truly wants is for Jason to be happy.
Jason comes out. "You look nervous. Are you nervous?" Molly asks him. Yeah! She's very composed and she asks him when did he know the he didn't want her. He says that he didn't. She's confused. He tells her how upset he was when he let her go, and she reminds him that he didn't have a good answer for her then, and he doesn't now.
"Uh, om. Um, om." Chris finally helps him out. Wasn't there something you wanted to tell her? Jason tells Molly that he just ended things with Melissa because he can't stop thinking about her. Molly has a "puzzled" look on her face but I think it's strain to keep from smiling. She keeps looking at Chris, like, "is this for real?"
Jason is going on about how he has feelings for her and tells her he knows they shouldn't jump from one thing to another, but that he's hoping "for a shot," and he's hoping they can go for coffee or a drink and talk. She lets out a noise that stops him cold. It's one of those "you've got some nerve" noises. Now suddenly she's all concerned about Melissa, when back at the final rose ceremony she was telling him how Melissa was going to hurt him.
Jason tells her that he's still in love with her. She's obviously thrilled but about to sprain something trying to act like it's not the fantasy she has played out in her head a billion times.
She tells him her feelings never went away and she wants to see where things go. Suddenly her body language is totally diffferent. She has her hand on his knee, and she admits she's been dreaming of this and she's so excited. "Blown away." She wants a better understanding of why he didn't pick her start with, but admits she'd be lying if she said she wasn't glad this was happening. Then they're holding hands. Then they're kissing. "Holy crap!" Jason says after they kiss. Then he moves in closer and hugs her. "Is this real?" she asks Chris.
Well, depends on who you ask.
It played out pretty much the way the spoilers said it would, although, I'm sorry - I still don't believe ABC orchestrated it. I think maybe after Jason proposed to Melissa and realized he made a mistake, he told the ABC folks and they probably said, Okay, let's do it this way... and he went along. But prior to the proposal, I will never believe that Jason agreed to propose to Melissa and break her heart. But I'm also not sure I believe that Jason and Molly haven't spoken during this whole time.
What do you guys think?
Don't forget to tune in again tonight for another After the Final Rose special. In this next one, I guess we get to hear all about how Jason and Molly are dating.

I don't think it was a plan.
Tue, 03/03/2009 - 13:06 — sm3065I don't think it was a plan. That is too cruel and he is such a sensitive guy (crying if you look at him), I can't see him intentionally hurting anyone. I think he tried to do the right thing and maybe the program used it to their advantage. I don't blame him for breaking if off with Melissa if he doesn't love her but I think it should have been done in private - AFTER the final rose part 1,2 3 .........
