The Bachelor: Jason apologizes to America

Bookmark and Share

Bachelor Jason Mesnick got a chilly reception from Ellen DeGeneres on her show Friday.

Ellen has railed against Jason for the past week, ever since he flip-flopped from Melissa to Molly on last week's Bachelor finale and After the Final Rose special.

The contrite reality star acted nervous with Ellen, immediately apologizing for his behavior toward Melissa.

"I want to apologize to everyone out there, all the fans of the show," he said. "Thank you for watching, but this was my real life and it was the hardest thing to do, and I made some big mistakes."

Jason said that even though he hurt someone he never wanted to hurt, and he regrets that, he has found his true love in Molly.

Ellen reminded him that when he was on her show in January, he told her he was happy and in love, and that apparently none of that was true. Jason said he was "in love the whole time" but was also restricted by ABC as far as how much he could say about his relationship before the finale.

Ellen asked him what changed with Melissa, and Jason repeated what he's said on all the talk shows lately -- that when it was just the two of them, they discovered the chemistry was lacking. "We would sit down and we would have very little to say to each other," he told her.

Ellen expressed anger last week that Jason broke up with Melissa on television, but then Melissa appeared on her show Thursday and said she and Jason actually broke up before the show, and that it was "mutual."

So on Friday, Ellen abandoned that tack and instead asked Jason why he had to tell Melissa about Molly on the show.

"I completely regret doing that," Jason told her. "I have regretted it every day since it happened and I will regret it every day for the rest of my life. The producers obviously really wanted me to do it on the show, but I take full responsibilty for my actions. I was just trying to do what I thought was right for me, and if I could go back, there is no way I would do that. Period."

Once again, Jason denied that he had spoken to Molly during the period he was trying to make a go of it with Melissa. And he explained that he decided to go ahead and ask Molly to reunite right away instead of waiting because the show was considering her for The Bachelorette.

Ellen still seemed ticked off at Jason. "You're gonna have to live with that," she lectured. "That's very fair," Jason responded. "In the end, I came to find my true love, and I hated the way it went down, but I did meet her on the show."

Later, Molly came out to join them and told Ellen she was expecting the audience to boo her.

Ellen told the couple over and over how difficult it is going to be to maintain their relationship. "We've been surrounded by so much negativity," Molly agreed. "But we're just trying to stay positive."

Ellen said their struggle would pull them closer together, but also "create a lot of fights."

Molly said she is moving to Seattle "eventually," and as far as marriage, they're "taking it a day at a time."

After this little pep talk from Ellen, don't be surprised if they break up this week!

Jason also discussed his new project, an online resource for single parents called Jasonsplace.com.
