It's 8pm and we're only 4 hours away from this nightmare being out of our lives for good (that's a lie because I'm totally watching many more hours of talk shows this week with Jason Mesnick interviews). At the top of the show, Chris tells us that tonight the girls meet Ty and it's "The most important day of their lives!"
So let's get to it. Not only is it the most important day of Molly and Melissa's lives, we know Deanna is coming back! And that is what we've been waiting for since January.
Okay, Melissa meets Ty and they hit it off like gangbusters. Melissa's great with Ty. Jason brings Ty a baby lamb for him to pet. Does he get to keep the lamb? Ty names the lamb "Sheep" so it would be bad to have to give him up after naming him. But I have a feeling Sheep isn't the only friend Ty is going to lose tonight...
Melissa meets Jason's family and Jason warns that after last year, his family is going to be very protective of him. He's right -- it's twenty-thousand questions for Melissa. All that's missing is the bright light in her eyes and bamboo shoots under the fingernails (maybe they're saving those for Molly).
Melissa's pretty honest with them and says she was terrified to meet Ty, but that it went very well. Jason's mom is hung up on meeting Melissa's parents, just like Jason is. Melissa is upset about that too, and assures them that her parents are normal, happy people and that they are close. Jason's brother, who helps Jason care for Ty, is the toughest and most cynical. Understandable.
Ty wakes from his nap and asks for Melissa. Score! He's so excited to see her and they run and play. The Mesnicks are impressed.
Jason's dad talks to him about his relationship with Ty and how special that is. He's very expressive and sensitive, and we see where Jason gets his emotional nature from. Jason tells us that he is "completely falling in love with Melissa."
Next Ty gets to meet Molly and guess what? He's just not that into her. She gets some serious cold-shoulder and Ty won't play with her. "Can you throw the frisbee to Molly?" "No!" But Molly doesn't give up - she isn't pushy, she just gives him some time and he warms up to her. Whew.
Molly meets the family. The brothers do their "due diligence" which involves asking Molly if she loves Jason and if she's ready to settle down. Wow. Such tough, tricky questions.
Jason's dad says Molly's feet are "pretty firmly on the ground." Jason says Molly is more career-oriented. During the discussion, which Ty is present for (!?!), Ty asks "where's Molly?" He's not as excited about her as he is Melissa, but he likes her. She passes the Ty test. The family seems to like Molly more. She really loves you, they tell him. "We see it with her," Jason's sister-in-law says.
Jason has a really intense talk with his mom and he says he just doesn't want to let one of them go. Jason's mom tells us that he's taking this very seriously: "At this moment he does not know what he's gonna do. That's the truth. He is torn."
Melissa freaks out and calls her mom to beg her mom to at least talk to Jason on the phone. Then they have another date out on a boat, lots of frolicking in bikinis. Then their last romantic date and she tells Jason that her parents are going to talk to him. Oh, lucky Jason.
Last date with Molly and she's leaving everything on the field. She drags him back to her place and they strip down and oil up. I don't know what you were thinking, but she gives him a massage (granted she's straddling him in a bikini the whole time). "Well, shall we shower and start dinner?" she asks. We don't get to see that part.
After dinner she spends a few more minutes telling him how much she loves him. Jason says this makes him feel "unbelievable" and that he has "completely fallen for her." Molly gives him a 'Jason storybook/scrapbook' that she's made. He says he loves it. We believe him, right?
So now, Jason calls Melissa's parents. We only hear one side of the conversation, which isn't surprising, since they are privacy freaks who don't yearn to prance around on a reality show. Jason enjoys his talk with them and feels much better about everything.
Big sigh. Jason says he's at peace, which only means one thing: It's time to rock his world. It's Deanna Time!! He answers the door and greets her with a chilly "What are you doing here?" "What's wrong," she asks? "I'm shocked," he says. LOVE IT!
This is the first time they've seen each other since The Incident. She tells Jason if she'd gone with her heart, she would have ended up with him. He looks stunned. I was sure ABC was leading us on with all this Deanna stuff, but she IS there to try to get Jason back! Holy guacamole! She tells him she chose a wildcard and it didn't work, but if she'd chosen him it would have worked. We both keep waiting for it to go a different way, but she pretty much tells him she wants another chance with him! Wha!?!?
There are several seconds of awkward silence (reminds me of those 20 seconds she left Jason down on one knee when he was trying to propose to her...). "I guess all I can do is thank you for giving me this opportunity." Oh, SNAP! Bwaaaa-ha-ha! Then Jason pushes the conversation away from DeAnna's self-indulgent attempt at sabotage, and talks about Melissa and Molly. He tells DeAnna that he's found two girls he has completely fallen for, and then he asks her for her advice in choosing.
DeAnna looks a little stunned, even though I do not believe her for one second. I think she just always wants what she can't have (Graham, anyone!?). But she tries to give him some advice: "Look further than the fun side." (Is she talking about Melissa?). "So, follow my heart?" he asks. "I wouldn't say follow your heart, I'd say lead it." "Ah." Jason says, nodding his head. He has no idea what that means.
"I followed my heart," DeAnna says. Huh??? Jason is as confused as we are. Didn't she just kinda say she didn't follow her heart when she picked Jesse? What the hell?
Then DeAnna tells the camera, "Jason's a wonderful man and any woman who gives him up is very stupid." Well, goodbye stupid!
The next segment is Jason groaning on about how he loves two women and feels so horrible and it all sucks very much. And he cries.
The girls are shuttled out to meet him. Jason, who I think is F-I-N-E fine, looks a little less cute in the blue suit that doesn't seem to quite fit him. It looks too tight and it adds to the uncomfortableness of the situation.
First on the chopping block, Molly. She's in a lovely purple gown. He looks really sad right away and she stops him and tells him before he says anything, she wants him to know it's been a great journey for her and she wouldn't take back a minute of it. He gives her the "you are so amazing in every way" speech, but you can tell he's getting ready to cut her loose because he's starting to cry.
"I don't know how I could ever let you go, but I have to." He tells her that he doesn't have a good reason for letting her go other than the fact that he's in love with someone else. Molly says she doesn't understand, but she holds it together. "I think you've made a mistake, a big one" she tells him. (We all know that, don't we?).
"I just don't get it," she keeps saying as he walks her out. "I just think you're making a huge mistake and I think you're gonna end up hurt again." Jason: "All I can say is I think you're wrong." Molly: "I hope I am, I do. Because you deserve someone really great."
Jason doesn't take his eyes off her while he's walking her out. Not for a second. "Everything was real, I started falling in love with you very early on. Always know that."
This is the balcony crying scene we've been seeing all season: Jason collapsing on the balcony wall, sobbing. I'll say it: like a girl. This is what Oprah calls, "The ugly cry." He's crying a LOT harder than Molly is.
Molly is shocked. Foreshadowing what's to come, in the limo she keeps repeating the "he's making a big mistake" line. Like forty or fifty times.
All Jason can say is, "I hope I made the right decision." Hope?! You better be doing more than hoping at this point, boy.
So after they give Jason some Kleenex and some cucumber slices to take down the swelling around his eyes, he gets to see Melissa.
Of course, he proposes to her. She's jumping up and down and very excited. They gush about how happy they are, and they all jump into a pool (even Ty).
And they lived happily ever after. Or did they...
Check out the After the Final Rose recap which will post Tuesday morning.
