"Tabatha's Salon Takeover": Making the world a better place

Bookmark and Share

We put up with so much, don't we?

In this case I'm speaking of how we put up with establishments that give so-so service but we keep going because it's the closest place or it's cheapest place or we really like somebody who works there.

But don't you just wish they would get it together?

That's why I love Bravo's Tabatha's Salon Takeover.

The show (tonight at 10) features Tabatha Coffey, a master hair stylist, who comes in and fixes broken hair salons with a dose of tough love. She basically asks the owners to raise their standards or in some cases, to get some standards so their businesses can succeed.

This season the first two episodes I saw deal with people who are on the brink of going out of business, mostly because of their incompetence. Tonight's episode features a Chicago salon owner who seems to have given up. His bathrooms are atrocious. His basement is overrun with unused product. Next week, the Miami owner is only 21 and gets pushed around by the staff.

Tabatha, clad in black with an Australian accent and a no-nonsense demeanor, gets called the b word. A lot. The truth, of course, is that she forces people to be respectful -- of their work, their customers, of their customers' time. She's an advocate for her profession and she wants everybody to do good work. There's nothing bitchy about that.

Watch Tabatha tonight and you might want to write her and ask her to come to your salon. Or your office. Or your house. Because we shouldn't have to settle!
