So You Think You Can Dance: the season finale

Bookmark and Share

Guest blogger Lenni G wraps it all up:

And we have a winner!!!!

But first we had lots and lots of really good dancing. The seven judges present - Lil C, Mia, Tyce, Debbie Allen, Adam, Mary and Nigel - selected their favorite routines from the season and we got to see them all again.

Choreographer, Louis Van Amstel, came up big here. Debbie picked his Waltz with Asuka and Vitolio, Mia chose his Samba with Kayla and Max, and Mary opted for his incredible Paso Doble with the incredible Jeanine and Brandon. Tyce Diorio, who had choreographed the unforgettable routine for Melissa and Ade about a woman struggling with breast cancer, announced that his friend, Michelle, to whom he had dedicated it, has been declared cancer free. Wonderful, wonderful news that was immediately followed by a Melissa and Ade reprise of, IMHO, the best dance ever on this show.

Voting results were staggered throughout the second half of the show but, since I know them all now, there will be no staggering on my part. Finishing in fourth place was Kayla who gave big props to Mia for pushing her as a dancer. In third place was Evan who thanked everybody, as we knew he would, for an amazing time. That left Jeanine and Brandon as the last dancers standing.

That very loud noise you heard coming from Durham about 9:50 last night was me doing my very best Mary Murphy "WOOHOO" when Jeanine was announced as the winner. America really got this so right - Jeanine has consistently provided the most entertaining performances from start to finish this season. And, be sure to pick up her new novel, "How I Survived a Hot Mess Russian Folk Dance and Still Won SYTYCD."

Second place winner, Brandon, was his usual gracious self in defeat. He, as well as the other two finalists, definitely have bright futures and I look forward to following their careers.

So, it's over, but not to worry. The next season starts in two weeks with a whole new group of youngins, including Evan's brother, Ryan. We can only hope that season six totally rocks the way that season five did. It was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!!!!
