Lenni G. tells what happened and how Katie did:
To celebrate its 100th episode, SYTYCD revisited some of the best routines and moments of the past five years. We saw "Hummingbird and Flower" from Wade Robson featuring Jamie and Hawk, "The Bench Routine" from Mia Michaels featuring Heidi and Travis, and the incomparable "Ramalama" (Wade Robson again) featuring the season two contestants. That season totally rocked and, judging from last night re-performance, those now older kids still rock too!
Mia jumped out of her usual genre last night, choreographing a Broadway Routine that was just sensational. Wearing white tuxes and top hats, the top 8 kids danced to "One" from "A Chorus Line" in front of etched mirrors. Bob Fosse would have been so proud.
On to the beginning of the results - Melissa and Jeanine were declared safe, sending Kayla and Janette to the danger zone. For the guys, Jason and Brandon were put in the danger zone, leaving Ade and Evan safe for next week. The four danger people repeated their solos from the night before, there was a commercial break, and THEN -
Katie Holmes hit the stage singing and dancing to a Tyce Diorio Broadway routine which had her supposedly channeling Judy Garland. Sorry, Katie, I didn't feel Judy or even Liza. While you certainly scored high on the "cuteness meter," I did not feel the Earth move. And Katie, you also had to follow the unbelievable artistry of Melissa and Ade on Wednesday night. I have to believe the Earth, as well as Jupiter and Mars, moved during and after that performance. Using his best "judgespeak", Nigel thanked Katie for all her "hard work." And, a big plus was getting a plug in for the Dizzy Feet Foundation and Katie's contribution of her appearance fee to that foundation.
On to the end of the results - For the girls, it was Janette, yes JANETTE, taking the Bye Bye Train back to Miami. I am so bummed and I know Mia must be beside herself, particularly after she declared Janette her favorite dancer from this season. For the guys, it was Jason taking a seat next to Janette on the BBT. That made more sense to me than the Janette result, though Kayla really has shown a lot of talent in a lot of styles that are not her particular strength.
On to next week with the Top 6. Wish they all could win cuz they're all that good at this point.
