So You Think You Can Dance: results show

Loved the opening "NappyTabs" routine. These contestants are really, really athletic - throw in great costumes and camera angles and they look positively professional.

Speaking on his 60th birthday, Nigel spoke to the public's request for a "Michael Jackson" night. He indicated all the choreographers, dancers and show folks were certainly on board. Unfortunately, Sony and/or the Jackson family won't release the music - bummer! But I do have an idea - let's have a mime show - no music, just great, Michael Jackson "looking" dance moves. Trust me, it could work! I know, I'm doing my digressing thingie again so, on to the results.

With only six couples remaining, it did not take very long to announce that Caitlyn and Jason, Jeanine and Phillip, and Melissa and Ade were in the bottom three. Dancers in the safe category were Janette and Brandon, Randi and Evan, and Kayla and Kupono. Think the voting public got this mostly right, though I would have "bottomed" Randi and Evan instead of Melissa and Ade.

After the solos, Kelly Rowland (ex Destiny's Child) sang her new release, "When Love Takes Over." Not Beyonce quality, but nice.

The judges returned with their decisions which were unanimous for both the girls and the boys. Nigel stressed that the this year's top 20 were the best in technique that the program has ever had. He also indicated that those remaining in the top 10 would need to start showing big-time star power along with their technique. In other words, as Roger Federer says when playing Rafael Nadal, "I need to take this puppy to the next level."

Nigel made no negative comments about the girls' solos, saying only that two girls who would be going to next week were most capable of continuing. He called Caitlyn out and pronounced her "gone." Just as terse with the boys, Nigel called out Phillip, nicely calling him a "one-trick pony" and telling him he had arrived at the Bye Bye Train station. Props to Phillip who made a very heartfelt departing speech.

Last night's surprise - The SYTYCD Tour which usually only includes the top 10 dancers will be upped to 12 to include Caitlyn and Phillip.

OK, America, next week we have total control over who stays and who goes. Remember, we'll be looking at all new partnerships and probably some real complicated choreography but we can do this - yes we can!
