Fresh from finding the only Elton John song with the word "country" in the title last week, Scotty McCreery will need to find a rock ’n’ roll song to sing this week. Well, sort of. Wednesday night’s widely expansive theme is songs from acts in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So clearly, there’s a lot for Garner’s favorite son to choose from.
In fact, we had no idea how many people were in the rock hall until we started looking. (Check out the full list here.)
If Scotty wants to stay strictly country, Johnny Cash or Hank Williams are good choices. Or, Scotty could easily put his twang to good effect on a song from Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, The Eagles, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Byrds or The Allman Brothers Band.
But even if Scotty wants to be adventurous this week, we don’t recommend anything from Black Sabbath, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, The Clash, The Sex Pistols or ABBA.
What do you think Scotty should sing? Peruse the list of acts and let us know in the comments below.
Wednesday night's live performance show, with the nine remaining finalists, runs from 8 to 9:30 on Fox. Voting opens after that by phone, text and Facebook.
The contestant with the fewest votes will be eliminated on Thursday’s 8 p.m. live results show.
Garner is throwing another big viewing party Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Anfesa’s Grand Marquise Ballroom, 225 New Fidelity Court. And Thursday afternoon, members of Scotty’s “Blue Crew” from Garner High School will be signing autographs at the Garner Business & Consumer Expo.

Sat, 04/16/2011 - 13:24 — archeo1Ho, fellow Garner Trojan! Congrats on winning the hearts of many countrymen! Just came home from the "store" on Aversboro and it was jumping, as usual. I have to admit, I'm 70 years old and one of the most chilling backgrounds or, for that matter, movie themes I've ever heard is a tribute to a fallen 1st World War soldier. He was bayoneted while throwing his body over his buddy who had fallen before him. The name of the song is Sgt. McKenzie. It can be found on stlyrics.com/lyrics/weweresoldiers/sgtmckenzie.htm. This theme was used in several war movies that I remember. The greatest of which was "Saving Private Ryan" and more recently, "We Were Soldiers." The bagpipes were awesome and the "purring-type" background absolutely sends chills up my spine. Although this is a sad song, the connections to this song are pure bravery-related. Maybe I'm the only one who feels so strongly about this piece but, I came from a long line of military people, both past-and-current. I'm Welsh, thus the Scot's brogue come easily. If you had the printed lyrics in front of you, it would be a breeze to sound Scottish.
The English translation is at the bottom of the Scottish version. I so vividly remember my Grandfather always saying "hame" instead of "home." That's, long "a". "Doon" is down, but said like "coo" and, of course, "caul" almost sounds like a mans name, "Kyle". "Groon" is simply "ground" with the tongue roll similar to French or Spanish and the "d" is not heard. Again, the sound of "oooooo". "Whaur" is simply "war", "afore" is "before" in English. "Monie" is "many" and "mair" is "men" but sounds like "air" with an "m" before it. "Huv" is "have" but sounds like "hoof" with a quiet huff sound.
"Ains" is "once" with the sound of "ah" plus "ns". "Bluid" is blood but sounds like blued. Man, I could go on and on but if you're able to pull these lyrics up, find a piper or a good 'letric picker, this can be replicated.
Of course, this is just FYI. Love you, your talents and that "clean cut American guy look"!!!!
God Bless and good luck. However all turns out, you're a success and we will welcome you hame!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elton John - Song Lyric “I Meant To Do My Work Today (A Day In The Country)”
The brown bird sang in the apple tree
I know that's why ....
And a butterfly flittered accross the field
And all the leaves were calling me
And the Buttercups nodded their smiling heads
Greeting the bees who came to call
And I asked the lizard the time of day....."
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand—
So what could I do but laugh and go?
