Here are some Scotty McCreery nuggets for you -- some McNuggets, if you will...
-Scotty won the "American Idol" coin toss, which determines who gets to sing first on next Tuesday night's show. According to Billboard Magazine, the coin featured a picture of Scotty's face on one side and Lauren's on the other. Scotty, a perfect Southern gentleman, deferred to Lauren, who said she'd like to go second. Billboard says the person who sings second is thought to have a slight advantage. Yes, well, we shall see about that.
-How much could Scotty potentially earn as a result of his "Idol" run? Well, as of this week, "Idol" Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood has sold more than 12 million albums and nearly 18.5 million digital tracks. She's the new top "Idol" seller, surpassing Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson. Interesting thing here -- three North Carolinians are in the top five for all-time "Idol" sales: Chris Daughtry (5th place), Clay Aiken (2nd place), and Fantasia Barrino (winner). Kellie Pickler (6th place) rounds out the top ten. See the whole breakdown at The Hollywood Reporter.
-Shirley Bailey Lowe of Garner won a Scotty Fan Facebook contest at the Garner restaurant Characters Quarters, when she was the first to post a photo of herself with Scotty during his hometown visit last weekend -- while wearing the restaurant's t-shirt. I love this picture because Shirley is facing the camera but her eyes are totally on Scotty. Shirley won a $500 gift card to the restaurant, which she received at the restaurant after last night's "Idol" viewing party.

-Reader Joe Johnson of Raleigh points out an interesting connection between Scotty and another local "Idol" star, Clay Aiken. At Leesville Road High School, Clay was a member of the chorus directed by Diane Covington. At Garner Magnet High School, Scotty was a member of the chorus directed by Diane's daughter, Meredith Covington Clayton. So the Covingtons are star makers! Johnson tells us the mother/daughter team of choral directors has been teaching and producing top individual musicians for years.

Sat, 05/21/2011 - 22:52 — brookecain (author)That's funny. Does your coworker have a deep voice and wear a lot of plaid? We actually talked at one time about doing a Scotty Look Alike contest because several people have mentioned they know people who look a lot like him. Maybe it's not too late!
