Rumored cancelation of "24" is confirmed

Bookmark and Share

The word has been on the street for a couple of weeks now, but confirmation came last night: "24" is canceled.

The current season will be the show's last, and it ends May 24.

The show's star, Keifer Sutherland, told Variety: “For us, creatively, it seemed like the right time to do it. It’s very bittersweet. ‘24’ was the greatest learning experience of my career so far. And on a personal level, working with this cast and crew and writers, these will be friends of mine for the rest of my life.”

"24" showrunner Howard Gordon said Friday that they thought about coming back for season 9, but ultimately decided that "the
story has run its course in the 24-hour, real-time framework." But don't fret, Jack Bauer fans. Gordon and his team are already working on a version of "24" for the big screen.

"24" has been criticized by many for glorifying the use of torture, but the bottom line for the cancelation? The show's costs have increased while its ratings have dropped.

How do you think the show will end? If there's a movie, that means they can't kill off Jack...

Mercy killing

Thank goodness, they clearly had run out of ideas. They should have stopped at season 7, which may have been the most cohesive season they did. I wonder how a movie absent the clock will be different from every other action film. I mean, if it doesn't reach the standards of the Bourne series, don't bother.

The "24" Movie

I read that they will still use the 24-hour format in that all the action takes place in one day, but compress it into 2 hours. So it probably won't be too unlike other action movies. Basically, Sutherland can get one last payday off Jack Bauer.

I think Season 5 was my favorite, during the presidency of Charles Logan.
