Bookmark and Share

Popcorn Sutton --  rascally Appalachian moonshiner, folk hero, and subject of the documentary The Last One -- is dead.

Sutton died in his home in Tennessee and his death is being investigated as a possible suicide.

Popcorn Sutton was supposed to report to federal prison this week to begin serving an 18-month sentence for making illegal liquor and possessing a firearm as a felon.

The Last One, which shows Popcorn Sutton making a batch of moonshine in the Appalachian mountains, was filmed by local documentarian Neal Hutcheson, and has aired on UNC Television channels.

that's sad, I saw some of

that's sad, I saw some of the documentary and this guy seemed harmless. He also seemed like he'd never have a chance against a federal system. I see the feds have won, but it doesn't seem like a fair fight.
