There's no sense in reinventing the wheel on this one. The LA Times TV blog has already compiled a fantastic list of television programming commemorating the attacks of September 11. The Sept. 11 programming really started about a week ago, but there's still plenty you haven't seen (and plenty of repeats).
Here's what's on tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 30 (click the LA Times link for the full list):
“How It Was” 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 30, Nat Geo: Voices of 9/11: Audio recordings capture the words of survivors, firefighters, 911 operators and countless others whose lives were changed by the terrorist assaults of Sept. 11. Replays Sept. 6, 1 p.m.
“Witness: DC 9/11” 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 30, Nat Geo: Observers reconstruct events of Sept. 11, 2001, in Washington. Replays Sept. 6, 2 p.m.; Sept. 11, 10 a.m.
“9/11: Where Were You?” 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 30, Nat Geo: The life-and-death decisions people made during the chaos of the 9/11 attacks help to paint a picture of a day that is etched in the collective memory of the world. (N) Replays Sept. 2, 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.; Sept. 6, 3 p.m.; Sept. 11, 11 a.m.

I was working in the administrative department for the Durham Public Schools and basically working as a floating teacher's assistant for Mrs. Burwell's first grade class at Burton Elementary School in Durham when I had a teacher in the next room told me that the Twin Towers in New York were hit and that the Pentagon in Washington,DC has been destroyed! Not mention that parts of the U.S. Capitol Building were damaged. The next thing that happened was that I saw teachers and administrators not to mention innocent children in the classroom watching the events unfolded on TV and classroom monitors. One of the teachers,Miss Ward turned on the TV to the local news to see what all the fuss was about. They told that this wasn't real, and when they tuned into the local news,I couldn't believe it neither. Teachers and students were in disbelief on that day.....when all hell on earth broke loose. I couldn't believe it. Teachers and students watching the news on that day when the Twin Towers fell. A lot of people were crying and upset that day, including me. This went on all day and when I got off work. I went to the local newsstand and pick up the local newspaper of the Raleigh News and Observer, and on the front page it read...EXTRA ISSUE....AMERICA UNDER ATTACK!!!
It might have been something out of the movies, but on that day in 2001,it was real.
As real as it gets. Anybody else that was working for the school system on that day will never forget it,not even the children who witness the horror on the TV monitors in the classroom. Oh yeah, on that faithful day, school schedule for the rest of the day still went on regardless of the events that took place on that day....A day that will live in infamy.
