I was a latecomer to "Sons of Anarchy," only initiated into the SAMCRO world this summer during a three-week marathon binge (four seasons in less than three weeks - woot!). This summer's foray wasn't the first time I tried to get into the gun-running biker gang drama, but this time it took, and I'm a happier TV watcher for it.
Like all other "Sons of Anarchy" fans, I'm really excited about Season 5, which starts tonight at 10 on FX. My dream, if creator Kurt Sutter is listening, is that evil bastard Clay (Ron Perlman) finally get what he deserves.
Okay, on to business. In tonight's premiere, Jax (Charlie Hunnam, pictured here) is now running SAMCRO and a feebled Clay is adjusting to life as a subordinate member -- adjusting to, but I'm assuming not settling for, life as a subordinate member. Then Tig answers to Oakland gangter Damon Pope (Harold Perrineau) for a big mistake made at the end of Season 4. Also of interest, Jimmy Smits joins the cast as a former gang-banger/current pimp who has a romantic relationship with Gemma (Katey Sagal).
Later this season, Joel McHale ("Community" "The Soup") has a turn as a shifty con man.
On a superficial note, one of the things I was most anxious to see in Season 5 was the state of Jax's hair. I'm sad to report that it's in a somewhat unsatisfying in-between state (see above), perhaps in the process of growing back out to his long (perpetually filthy-looking) locks of Seasons 1 and 2. I'm personally a big fan of the short-cropped (post-prison) Jax hair of Season 4.
