North Carolina homeboy (and movie star) Zach Galifianakis appeared on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" last night. Our favorite disheveled comedian was hilarious, as usual.
Zach, a Wilkesboro native who attended NC State, is now starring in "The Hangover," which is the top grossing one of the most successful R-rated comedy movies of all time. That R-rating is for real, too. Zach says his mom called him when she was on the way to see the movie with his dad, cheerfully announcing that she'd call when it was over. Three hours later his father called and soberly announced, "Your mother has some issues with the film."
The embedded versions of the interview no longer work, but you can watch video of the Conan-Galifianakis segments at the "Tonight Show" website, which I can't link to right now because the N&O blogs are misbehaving. But here's the link if you want to copy and paste:

As noted in the story linked below, adjusting for inflation shows "Beverly Hills Cop" is still #1. Citing unadjusted figures is comparing apples and oranges. Or raspberries and sousaphones.

Tue, 07/28/2009 - 11:56 — brookecain (author)Okay, that's a good point. I was referencing multiple sources like The Philadelphia Inquirer and IMDB.com and The Examiner, which were apparently writing off of the Warner Brother's press release. The main point I was trying to make was: "Local boy makes good!" I'll adjust the content of the post to reflect that. Thanks.
