TMZ is reporting that the boneheads over at NBC are going to screw over Conan O'Brien by returning Jay Leno to his original 11:30pm timeslot.
So Leno crashes and burns in primetime and is rewarded with his old slot back? Sure, Conan's ratings at 11:30 haven't been on fire, but they have been respectable -- often beating David Letterman. And after Conan uproots his entire life and moves his family from New York to LA? Way to go, peacock.
TMZ's report comes after a day of blogosphere rumors about NBC dumping Leno's disastrous 10pm experiment, "The Jay Leno Show," and a non-denial denial from NBC.
UPDATE: The New York Times is confirming that NBC held discussions today with both Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien, and the network is not denying the possibility that Leno will be returned to the 11:30pm slot. They write that the pressure for the move is coming from NBC affiliates, frustrated with Leno's poor lead-in to local 11pm newscasts.
Affiliates (and practically everyone else on earth) were complaining about the 10pm Leno show well before the show debuted, but their concerns were ignored by NBC. Now it looks like NBC will make Conan pay for their mistake.

Crazy!
Fri, 01/08/2010 - 12:43 — Jen1978I just do not understand why NBC keeps bending over for Leno. Does he have some good dirt on someone there or something? His show is not funny (and never was, even when he was the Tonight Show host), he's got bad ratings, and now he's getting his old slot back? Madness. I hope everyone stops watching lame-o Leno altogether (no matter what time he's on) and NBC's ratings go even farther down the toilet.
