The latest from our "Lost" junkie, Luci Chavez...
Sayid lost mano a mano. I don't know what to do about it. It's one thing to be unemployed; quite another to see your TV hero get beat down. I hope Claire gets her real hair back soon. That wig is killing me. Ten kinds of crazy in this episode. It took me two days to just let it sink in. Then I realized: OMG, I'm scurred!
SPOILER ALERT
Short-haired Sayid (Naveen Andrews) is sitting in a taxi with yellow flowers somewhere in WITPDCAR. Ah, he's there to visit the lovely Nadia. They kiss and are interrupted by two cute kids. But she's married, to Sayid's brother Omar, who's acting a smidge jealous that Sayid brought Nadia flowers. Sayid's been away translating contracts for oil companies. Dullsville. (Mercenary is way cooler.) Omar's a businessman who likes to take calls during dinner. That's OK. It gives Nadia a chance to gentle chastise Sayid for not responding to her letters. And it gives Sayid a chance to gaze longingly at the lovely Nadia. Oh, the angst.
At the temple, on the island, Sayid rolls up on Dogan, all hard-like, and demands to know just what was that machine that you electrocuted me with? Dogan explains it's like a scale that measures good and evil and, Sayid, your black ops side is showing. Oh, so that's why you tried to slip me a lethal mickey, Sayid says. "You think you know me but you don't. I'm a good man," Sayid says. Doh! Dogan gives Sayid a hell of the fist to the gut. (Hey, Sayid can mess you up. I wouldn't do that if I were you.) Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Sayid sticks his boot heel in Dogan's gut. Nice! Dogan responds with something pointye to the jugular until that darn baseball rolls off the table. Dogan's looking at it like it was the ball Kirk Gibson hit for a game-winning homer off of Dennis Eckersley in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. "Go. Leave. Never come back." (Sayid lost? Wha ... why ... come on!)
Meanwhile, Claire (Emilie de Ravin) is hanging out with Black Locke (Terry O'Quinn), which is some kind of after school special setup about choosing better friends. Black Locke wants her to go into the temple. Claire wants Black Locke to promise he'll get Aaron back for her. She wants to know if Black Locke is going to hurt the people at the temple. "Only the ones who don't listen." Oh man, that can't be good.
In Los Angeles, in WITPDCAR, I think, Omar nearly gets his neck broke when he wakes up Sayid sleeping on the couch. Omar's in trouble. He took a loan from a shark and the shark wants regular interest payments. Sayid offers money but Omar's like, brother, what you thinking? "i need you to convince them to leave me alone. I know what you did in the war." (Why does everyone have to drop that on Sayid? No fair.) "I know what kind of man you are. if you care about Nadia (That's dirty, Omar) you will do this." Sayid says go *bleep* yourself, Omar. That's not me anymore. (He's trying! Points for effort, bro.)
At the temple, Sayid is loading up a backpack with food for a quick escape when Miles (Ken Leung) comes by to earn his paycheck by appearing in a scene. Sayid's trying to figure out why he was banished by the same guy who saved him. Miles is like, dude, they didn't save you. You kinda woke up two hours after you died. Hey, Claire! Claire shows up and tells Dogan to come outside to talk to Black Locke. Dogan's like, no way, he'll kill me. So send someone Black Locke won't kill. Hmm, who could that be? Hey, Sayid, come on over here. Bring me Jack and Hugo. Sayid can't figure out why the Japanese dude wants his help now. "I thought you wanted me to leave." "Things have changed."
Sayid wants to know why Claire showed up? "She's a confused girl under the influence of an angry man. For years (Black Locke) has been stymied but Jacob's gone and he's free. He won't stop until he destroys everything on the island." So Sayid is going to be an ambassador of sorts, yes? (Come on, Sayid. You're like No. 1 of 2 in the Island Smart Guy competition, depending on the day of the week. Why are you being so obtuse?) "I want you to kill him." (Of course, you do. See. That's why Sayid couldn't die. There were still people to kill. When's the last time Jack or Sawyer took anyone down. Oops. Sorry, Juliet.) "Put this sword in his chest. But if you allow him to speak, it's already too late." Sayid rightfully asks why he should help the guy who beat, drowned, tortured and ass-kicked him. "Because you said you were a good man. Prove it."
In L.A., aww, Sayid's taking the kids to school. He's planning to go to Toronto. (Even the kids know Nadia is hot for Sayid!) Nadia and Sayid have to go to the hospital becuase Omar was mugged. Nadia sees right through it. She knows Omar is in trouble and begs Sayid not to do whatever it is he thinks he needs to do. "Go home. Wait for the kids. Make them feel safe." Anything for you, boo.
On the island, Sayid runs into Kate in the jungle but he's off too quickly. Kate goes back at the temple and asks Miles what's going on. "Sawyer sent you packing, huh." Miles catches Kate up. Claire's here. Looks stoned, "still hot, though." Kate's like, "Claire?"
Sayid is walking thorough the jungle, trying to tempt Black Locke out of his hiding place. The wind swirls and there here is. Sayid puts sword in the guy's guy but AFTER Black Locke says hello. Oops. Sayid rarely gets the instructions wrong. (Seriously, the island stuff is more of an alternate reality for me these days.) Black Locke lives. He gives Sayid the sword back.
"What are you? They said you were evil incarnate." Uh oh. (I see why the talking was a bad thing.) "Dogan knew you couldn't kill me. He figured I'd kill you if you tried." What do you want, Black Locke? "Deliver this message. And I'll give you whatever you want. " He wants Nadia. She's dead. "What if you could (have her)?" (That's so low. DIRTY!)
In L.A., Nadia and Sayid talk in the kitchen. Omar's in the hospital. Nadia tells Sayid not to help Omar. "it's his responsibility." Why ddin't you want o be with me? Why push me to your brother? "The last 12 years been trying to wash my hand of all horrible thins I've done. I can't be with you. Because I don't deserve you." (But you saved her. You let her go? remember. That was an act of mercy, a redemptive act, my little friend.)
At the temple, Sayid delivers the message at the temple. Jacob is dead. He's dead. You're free. The man is leaving forever. If you want to, you can join him. What happens at sundown if we stay. You die. Dogan is looking ten kinds of [screwed].
Kate demands to know where Claire is and there she is. Claire is singing to herself. Catch a falling star ... she's down in this pit singing to hereslf. Claire it's me. Are you OK? Why put you in pit/ "They have Aaron." No they don't. I took him off the island. You were gone. I raised him. Sookie, sookie. Claire is pissed. Came to rescue you so you could be together. I'm not the one that needs to be rescued. He's coming, Kate. Ominous. He's coming and they can't stop him.
Temple people freaking out. Dude with glasses trying to calm them. Stay in temple; it's safe. "It's a bluff. (Black Locke) can't come in." Are we leaving or what? Miles asks Sayid. No, not before Sayid pulls out the knife and goes looking for Dogan. (Yes. Sayid's back on the warpath. Thank you. God.)
In L.A., two heavies come up on Sayid at Nadia's house. Sayid's like, I know this game. This is all too familiar to me. In Arabic, the heavy with the pretty eyes says, "Unless you want us to pick up the kids together?" They take Sayid to a dark place. Some guy is making eggs. (This is your brain on drugs.) "You want some eggs?" (Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh, it's KEAMY!) No, he doesn't want your eggs, you felonious jerk. You overcooked them for one thing.
Keamy and Sayid shake hands. No ass-kicking this time but Keamy is the guy who "loaned" Omar the money. (Editorial aside: Sorry but Keamy in a suit is SMOKIN'.) Keamy denies beating up Omar. Chit chat chat then Sayid finally starts acting like Sayid when he punches one of the other dudes in the groin then steals a gun. Keamy, revealing himself as a punk, backs off. Sayid's like, I don't believe you, brotha'. I can't." Bang. One shot to the heart and KEAMY DOWN. KEAMY DOWN. (That's what I'm TALKING about. ) Wait. What is that noise coming from behind that locked freezer door? Jin!!!!! Jin is back to not speaking English.
(Of the Keamy and Jin appearances, I should have guessed at least one of those before it happened. Is Sun's dad mixed up with the Keamy people? Is Keamy still a Widmore operative in the WITPDCAR? We haven't seen Daddy Widmore yet in the WITPDCAR. What's the deal there?)
Sayid comes back to the temple and Dogan knows he let Black Locke talk. Sayid explains as Dogan plays with that baseball. "I stabbed him. Then he talked. Now that's twice you tried to have someone else kill me. Why not do it yourself?" Dogan tries to explain by telling his backstory. He was a banker in Osaka with a 12-year old son. He was a drinker who killed his son in an accident. Someone came to him and promised him he could get his son back by coming to the island.
Who? "His name was Jacob." Dogan explains that he knows Black Locke is making the same type of bargain with Sayid. Sayid's like, I'd love to discuss this more but first I have to drown your ass in this pool where you tried to drown me. Sayid walks out like a badass.
Of course that dude with the glasses - I really don't care what his name is - is meowing about how Sayid killed the only thing keeping Black Locke out. "You idiot. You just let it in." Sayid is like, yeah boy, I did it but he ain't coming until I slit your throat. (Damn, Sayid. I guess there's no going back. His heart has gone truly bad, right? Does this mean I have to hope someone kills Sayid? I don't know if I can do that.)
CUE THE SMOKE MONSTER. One down. Run Miles! Run Kate! Two down. Three and four down. Five down. Miles tries to hide behind a door until Ilana shows up with Lapidus and Ben asking for Jack and Hurley.
Kate finds Claire in a pit. Kate offers to get her out. Claire says, no, it's safer down here so Kate does what any sane person would do and dives into the pit, thus saving herself from the swirling smoke monster.
Ben has proceeded to the pool and finds Sayid. "Let's go, Sayid. I know a way out. There's time." Sayid, for the first time ever on the show, smiles a smile without regret. "Not for me," Sayid says. Ben runs, because he's smart like that.
Oh, hey Sun. Miles tells her Jin was just here. She goes off looking for Jin as Ilana reads the hieroglyphs on the wall. She pushes the right secret rock. Door opens. Everyone in - Ilana, Lapidus, Sun and Miles go in. Ay viene el smoke monster!
Claire is walking. Is she singing? Kate is following. (You will regret this, Kate.) They walk out of the temple and see the smoke carnage. (Kate please don't follow. Wait, yeah, picking up a gun is a good.)
There's Black Locke and he's eyeballing Sayid and Sayid is eyeballing him back in a way that tells me he just sold his soul to the devil. (Kate. Run. Please. I'm begging you. Just go.)
Black Locke heads for the temple door looking like the Man, having just snagged perhaps the most important convert from among the "candidates." Waaaaaaahhhhhhh!
