Kate Gosselin (left) and her eight kids (plus her bodyguard, her nanny, and her TLC camera crew) have made quite an impression while vacationing along the North Carolina coast over the past couple of weeks.
The paparazzi stayed hot on their trail, reporting every move Kate and the kids made on their working vacation. The family relaxed on Bald Head Island (while Jon had drinks with women at bars in New York) and fans of the show (as well as fans of trainwrecks) have gone along for the ride, obsessing over Kate's bikini, her bodyguard, and her parenting style.
The Wilmington Star News reported this week that Kate and the gang had lunch at Elijah's in downtown Wilmington, then took a horse-drawn carriage tour of the area, and shopped at the Cotton Exchange.
Most people in NC who observed the group had nice things to say about them, but a few beachgoers told US Magazine that Kate was "rude, mean, and hateful" and "ignored her kids."
The couple reportedly earns up to $75,000 per episode of their successful TLC show, "Jon & Kate Plus Eight."

Mon, 06/15/2009 - 19:49 — notasuglyaskategOMG, Kate is the worst wife ever. I am married and have children but I would never treat my husband like she does. She is so embarrassing...I watch all episodes, I am a fan. However, I don't blame Jon for what he did. I would do if my wife treated me like I was five. She is so mean, rude, and disrespectful. Jon is better off on his own. This is my personal opinion...but with everything I see I can't feel any other way. If you are unhappy Kate...leave why treat him like crap...or Jon you should leave.
video of Kate denies daughter water
Mon, 06/15/2009 - 19:10 — ljm253I just watched the video clip of Kate denying her daughter water and thn getting herself some water. MY ears are still burning. I was just horrified by what I saw. She is clearly disconnected from her children. Doesnt seem to know how to have a heart. I dont claim to be the best mom, I had 3 demanding kids at a time and yet this really bothered me to watch. Her daughter even states that she was mean which really I saw a veryu insnsitive person in Kate when she denied her daughter water then got herself some and cared more about the interview rather than her childs needs and yes, they do need water, the lights in any tv studio is gonna be hot and uncomfortable for small children. I did not like what I saw at all and I hope someone really gets into her face about it cuz I know I would if I saw that. And, yeas, maybe it is child abuse or at the very least neglect. I wonder how child labor law officials would react to such a scene if they saw it. The child was really hurt and that speaks volumes about how diassociated she has become. It makes me ill.
TUMMY TUCK!
Mon, 06/08/2009 - 10:45 — threeformeI am tired of hearing about her "fit bikini bod" and how people are admiring how she looks in a bathing suit. Doesn't anyone remember that she had a tummy tuck? Of course she looks good! And of course, she didn't have to pay for it.
If THEY ????
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 16:51 — AgentPierceI love rants about "public tastes" in news, entertainment, sports, etc. It's always "If THEY would ...." or "If THEY would just stop ...."
The "THEY" is always vague. Who should be in charge of "THEY" assuming of course that the job does not pay enough for you to be interested?
If the newspapers and
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 15:44 — Clooney1If the newspapers and television outlets would stop their constant monitoring of these idiots (the kids are not), then they would go away very quickly.
Not really
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 16:03 — Jen1978I doubt that. Their show has always been fairly highly rated, even without the media attention. Sure, it's probably helped bump up this season's ratings, but the media can't be blamed for this one.
Also, I wouldn't lump traditional media outlets in with the tabloids, as tabloid magazines and shows make up the bulk of the coverage of this (and other similar)story.
It'd be nice if it were that easy, though!
Kate and Octomom
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 15:40 — johnboy76122This is a job for the Milfhunter...leave it to the experts. But he's only paying $3000 per episode. Eight kids and you get divorced right when your wife starts looking hot. Jon, Jon, Jon... $10 says she cheated first. I'm thinking bodyguard...
Ugh
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 15:37 — Jen1978I've never watched their show, but it's hard to escape the story since it seems to be everywhere these days. Honestly, I could not care less what Kate looks like in her bikini or who Jon's running around with. However, I think it's really sad that these 8 kids are stuck in the middle of this, with parents who are more interested in fame-whoring and making money than raising them. Jon and Kate need to stop talking to People magazine, posing for pictures and making deals with TLC, and work on their relationship and family. There's a lot more at stake here than just ratings and paychecks. I wish they'd remember that.
Fame and money
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 16:58 — brookecain (author)I agree with you. My view on J&K is pretty cynical - I think they really adore the attention, because magazine covers=more money, since it's not just the show: it's book deals and speaking engagements and endorsements or whatever. Kate's not exactly trying to live below the radar here. Kate came from humble beginnings, from what I've read, so I'm guessing nothing is going to make her give up this new wealth, even if that means screwing up her kids. I bet she doesn't think she's messing them up, but one day she'll regret it.
And as long as people keep reading about them, people (including us) will keep writing about them. Even the people who complain about the coverage are reading it. Would I rather be writing about the finale of "Breaking Bad?" Yes! But no one would read it.
Breaking Bad
Tue, 06/09/2009 - 11:34 — coughlin_jakeThankyouthankyouthankyou for the statement "Breaking Bad is the best show on television". We purchased it thru Amazon's Video on Demand, and it is great!
If I were Jon
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 15:19 — echllcMy butt would be vacationing somewhere else away from looney tune. I wouldnt get too exicted about the commerce benefit at Bald Head Island from this, accordingly to her she gets everything free anyway. Kate there's two things that need to close down, your mouth and your legs.
I think it's great
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 15:10 — samwright23I think it's great. It brings business to NC. All those paps have to eat somewhere, right? But you're right...who cares about US magazine...they aren't very credible. Brangelina are breaking up or having kids every 3rd day of the month in that magazine.

Where was John Edwards?
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 13:41 — AgentPierceThere has GOT to be a John Edwards angle to this somehow. Bwahahaha.
To the "who cares" humbugs I say ...... I DO. I think Kate would be terrific running a speakers bureau at NCState. .... or a furniture store in Chapel Hill.
Wow!
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 12:42 — TheLibertinepeacenik: You and I finally agree on something. Who cares indeed?!?!
