The Kate portion of "Jon & Kate" continued on the family's Bald Head Island, NC, vacation in last night's episode. Viewers were treated to some cute beach playtime featuring the kids, but also some sad moments where the kids talked about missing their dad.
Unlike the previous week, last night's episode was less about the family's vacation being invaded by paparazzi, and more about the kids just hanging out and being themselves. The major action involved visiting the Cape Fear Serpentarium in downtown Wilmington. Lots of snake handling...
Read Entertainment Weekly's take on the episode, including a priceless moment when grossed-out 8-year-old Mady returns home from vacation to ask Jon, "What's in your ears?!" That's right. Daddy has earrings. What man doesn't love trying to convince his 8-year-old that he is NOT having a midlife crisis?

Kate will show everyone she is the responsible one in the end
Wed, 08/12/2009 - 00:42 — DebbieVollmerJon is not having a mid-life crisis, he is trying to continue his single years. It is too late for him to decide that he likes to party, smoke, hang out, date, and travel (all the things he did before he got married) after he has committed himself to a wife and family. He needs to sit down and look back at the shows of their original wedding, commitment ceremony, and his honest happiness and smiles just a short time ago (probably up until he met Hailey when Kate stayed with her parents). He appeared to be happy, although he has never seemed to be independent or driven, in earlier shows. Yes Kate may have ordered him around but would he have done anything to help without being asked/told? I doubt it! He didn't hold a job and yet with everything she had to do every day, Kate managed to not only write books but travel to market them to make money for.......the family. Jon did nothing and yet resented having to stay home with HIS OWN CHILDREN while she was required to travel for her job. I think he left because he resented the work of a house full of children and because Hailey the drunk/druggie/carefree one (wouldn't you be proud to have her as a daughter or take her home to meet your parents) offered him a return to his younger days so he shrugged off his responsibilities and left them to Kate, just like so many men do! He has shown his real self since the break up and yet now tries to redeem himself by saying Kate told him to get out so he did. She is much too upset by this to have been the one to initiate it. Shame on Jon.
What a shame
Tue, 08/11/2009 - 22:59 — FlowerpowerWhy does this john and kate stuff remind me of The Truman Show? Being in front of cameras all day long so snoopy people can watch you is not all it's cracked up to be.
And, for some of the less sociopathic ones of us, it's a great big YAWNER.
One hot single Mom.......
Tue, 08/11/2009 - 20:36 — WuptdoPerhaps Kate could get together with Reille Hunter (John Edwards' baby's Mother) and have a girls night out down on the Isle.
Someone should slap Jon upside the head and tell him that he has a hot wife and it would get any better.
Not reality........
Tue, 08/11/2009 - 20:07 — mayberry_lady1Jon and Kate have forgotten what reality is. In reality, couples with 8 kids don't have the money to buy a $1.1 million dollar house (courtesy of the kids' money) or work several days or hours a week. In the real world two immature adults playing house when necessary do not make $75,000 a week.
Reality.
