HBO revives 'Pee-wee Herman Show'

Bookmark and Share

Okay, everyone, scream real loud!

Because HBO announced today that it is shooting the Broadway version of Paul Reubens' 'Pee-wee Herman Show' for a special broadcast next year.

Reubens' Pee-wee Herman persona began as a live stage show in 1980. Pee-wee became a pop culture phenomenon in 1985 after a Tim Burton movie ('Pee-wee's Big Adventure') and an Emmy-winning CBS Saturday morning children's show, 'Pee-wee's Playhouse,' which featured Reubens' fellow Groundlings Phil Hartman, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Laurence Fishburne.

The Broadway show opened in October and runs through January 2. The HBO special will reunite Mailman Mike, Chairy, Cowboy Curtis, Miss Yvonne and other Playhouse characters.
