I haven't liked this "Ghost of Denny" storyline any more than anyone else. The only saving grace is that it is Denny. So while I haven't enjoyed the ridiculousness of Izzie making out with a figment of her imagination, I do appreciate some Denny screen time.
But last night, for better or worse, we all gave up the ghost. Denny and Izzie ended the light and flirty ghost banter, and fought all night about why he won't leave her alone. Can you feel sorry for a ghost? I can. He finally confesses that he can't leave her alone, even though he really wants to (she picked Alex over him), because he's "there for her." In fact, he says it over and over all night: "I'm here for you."
Izzie gives him the ole, "Uh, that's nice and I appreciate it, but please go away now" response. But it doesn't work because that's not what he means. He means he is there for her. As in, there to collect her and take her back to heaven with him. Yikes. That's when Izzie freaks out and realizes she's actually very sick, and once she accepts that, Denny leaves. But not without getting one more pretty smoking ghost kiss. (Just suspend belief folks and enjoy the scenery).
The whole Grey's episode was depressing as heck last night.
-Dr. Bailey tries desperately to save the sick little boy who needs a transplant, and there's a pretty intense moment at the end when his mother has to come to terms with letting him go.
-The GI Doc has to apologize to Christina for showing up at her house wasted, and she recognizes that he has "big problems" and needs help. She'll help him.
-And we can't forget our psychopathic serial killer, who opens the episode bashing his exposed brain into the bed rail so that he can kill himself before the state can do it (I couldn't watch that part). Meredith assists him behind Derrick's back, and then she and Bailey plead with Derrick to let the killer die so that the little boy can have his organs.
-But that doesn't happen, so then (after -- thank god -- the little boy gets some organs from someone else) Meredith goes to the prison to watch the execution. For someone who has watched a lot of people die, she really doesn't handle that well. And even though Derrick hated that murdering jerk's guts, he's there for her. And not in the bad way.
At least it looks like maybe Meredith and Christina have made up from whatever it was they have been fighting about (I can't even remember).
All in all, pretty wrenching stuff.
The only comic relief was when Little Grey broke Little McSteamy, and even that wasn't very funny.
