Golden Globe Awards: Mickey Rourke thanks his dogs

Bookmark and Share

King of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan and Freida Pinto from Slumdog Millionaire come out to introduce Slumdog. Khan is charming, but the crowd is a little rowdy, so maybe he should do a quick "shush."

Cameron Diaz and Mark Wahlberg come out to present. Wahlberg says he's depressed that Entourage lost, and you almost expect him to throw in, "Say hello to your mother for me." But no. They give the Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture to Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road. She cries and hugs her husband Sam Mendes, who directed the movie. On stage she's practically hysterical with shock and excitement, and tells the off-camera prompter that she is not "wrapping up." She runs through a list of people and gushes over Leo and hubby Sam.

Blake Lively and Rainn Wilson give out the award for Best Television Drama and try to be funny, but are not. Mad Men!!!! Yay! Justice. The producer/director?? who accepts the award says that "the english actress" stole his crying bit. Um, you mean Kate Winslet? What the hell, man. You know her name.

Susan Sarandon comes out and very quickly reads the nominees for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. Hurry! Mickey Rourke. Okay, you gotta feel good about that one. Mickey is wearing sunglasses and a glittery scarf, but forgot to wash his hair. The crowd is going wild. He almost trips up the steps (looks like his shoe came off). He gives a good speech. He starts off saying he didn't want to speak but he warms up to it pretty fast, and even thanks his dogs -- the ones who are here and the ones who are not. "Sometimes when a man is alone, that's all you've got is your dog."

I'm a fan of Entourage but

I'm a fan of Entourage but it's definitely starting to show it's age. As for my bright spots, let's just say I'm a fan of the cast of Mad Men ;)

I never thought "Mickey Rourke is my hero" would be something I typed but anyone who can thank his dogs in acceptance speech is okay by me.

I agree

I was hoping for Jon Hamm to win for Mad Men, but then I've never seen In Treatment so I guess it's not fair for me to judge.

I also loved that Mickey Rourke thanked his dogs. At first it sounded kinda crazy, but when he said that part about being lonely and your dog being your only friend, and you think about some of the really bad times he's been through, I thought it was extremely poignant and appropriate.

I just wish he'd washed his hair.

Entourage should have won

Jeremy Piven didn't win and Entourage didn't win. That was wack! That's my favorite show and they were shut out. There were a few bright spots, though. Beyonce, Eva Mendez and Kate Winslet. And Salma Hayek.

Entourage

M-Dude, your "bright spots" say a lot about you (just kidding!). But I think you forgot Eva Longoria Parker and her red dress. As for Entourage, I like that show too, but critics have not been loving it this year. Maybe it's getting a little tired? I don't know - I haven't seen the current season. But I would have been shocked if they had won.
