The first season of Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva" has been delightful.
Brooke Elliott's Jane proves that being plus-size character on TV doesn't have to be all about being a preachy symbol or a representative from some kind of special group.
Jane is smart and sexy and worthy of the desire she's earning from suitor Tony. And, it seems, from Grayson.
The finale, on tonight at 9, features two cases; one is a lingerie model who wants to sue after she was fired by a company when she reveals she is a breast cancer survivor (October, if you didn't know, is breast cancer awareness month). The other case involves a minor league baseball catcher who wants to sue the hospital that botched his surgery, ending his potential career.
That second case finds Jane and frenemy Kim working together, and possibly, vying for the coveted partnership at the firm. The case also leaves Jane at a professional turning point.
But the bigger personal issue for Jane is whether she should move forward in her relationship with Tony, or keep waiting for Grayson to recognize who she really is, especially now that he's broken up with Kim.
Paula Abdul returns as the judge in the court of Jane's dreams. And the end has a nice surprise that makes for nice possibilities for the next season.
Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long.

Assistant Features Editor Adrienne Johnson Martin would like to have her life turned into an animated cartoon.

great finale

That scene where Grayson accidentally revealed to Stacy that he’s losing sleep over Jane was awesome…really sets up next year great, and further develops the already complex Jane/Deb dichotomy and I like how they also mixed in some light humor to balance the scene out. I also thought it was cool that they used the song ‘Piece of Mind’ by Castaneda in the background of the scene – they’ve really had a bunch of great music choices all season long, and it’s great to hear that. (fyi, you can watch the scene at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSuv5PcbEp8 )
Can’t wait for next season!
