The Hollywood Reporter (who obviously ranks advance ABC screeners whereas our modest little Warm TV blog does not) describes the entrepreneur competition show "Shark Tank" as "brisk, sharp, and surprisingly emotional."
The show, which premieres this Sunday at 9pm, gives local business people a chance to present an idea and business plan to a panel of billionaires and make a case that they deserve financial backing.
We're watching because Cary CEO Kevin Flannery appears on Sunday's show to argue the merits of his company, WiSpots. But it's nice to know the show is interesting and engaging.
THR warns not to expect flashy production values as with "The Apprentice" and "Survivor," two other shows from "Shark Tank's" producer Mark Burnett. They feel that the show's success will hinge on the likeability of the contestants and the ability of the producers to insert some drama. There's no "elimination" or continuing storyline as with many other reality competition shows, so THR frets that the show could have trouble keeping the audience's attention week after week.
Media Life Magazine feels the show is plenty dramatic, especially when a winning idea gets offers and counteroffers from the panel, and the entrepreneur has to decide whether to take the money or run.
Just be sure to watch this week, and pull for Flannery. The show airs on ABC Sunday night at 9pm, right after "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire."
