While we naturally wish for the continued physical safety of Cary businessman Kevin Flannery, we were a little disappointed when we learned that ABC's new show "Shark Tank" has nothing to do with actual sharks in tanks. Discovery Channel's Shark Week must be getting to us.
"Shark Tank," from the producer of "Survivor" and "The Apprentice," features inventors and entrepreneurs pitching business ideas in hopes of winning financial backing from a panel of millionaires. The aspiring moguls must sometimes give up a substantial chunk of their business in exchange for the money.
Flannery (right), owner of the company WiSpots, filmed the show in California earlier this year. Did Flannery get an offer? We'll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, reviews are in and it sounds like the contestants are likeable and that the show is going to be pretty interesting. So there are even more reasons to tune in!
And check back here on Monday, because we'll be rehashing the events, and hopefully have some insight from the WiSpot CEO himself.
"Shark Tank" airs Sunday night at 9pm.

Looking For investors I came up with a new type of Safety Cigarette Lighter. This is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by young children playing with lighters. the standards for child resistant lighters. This Safety Cigarette Lighter will meet all Requirements If your company is interested send your company's Confidential Disclosure and your terms. I will let my attorney look over your terms and we will get back in touch with you. I will send you a rough drawing of how this lighter will look and work. Well I hope to hear from you soon. train wreck to potential business owners
Tue, 08/18/2009 - 21:29 — surestartthis is a terrible copycat of the BBC's Dragon's Den. these investors are heartless, rude and have the mindsets of taking advantage of each person who brings a potential business idea. kevin o'leary is the worst of the lot as not one of the sharks have enough heart to nurture an idea without wanting 80% control of the business...it's pathetic viewing and not entertaining and certainly not as informative to potential owners as the BBC's Dragon's. at least they give good ideas to the entrepreneurs to go back home with and sometimes provide them with continued inspiration. they are a bunch of verbal morons and i hope this show fails because of their attitudes.
The Shark Tank Bandits That Take Advantage Of People
Tue, 10/20/2009 - 05:55 — albert8Hi This is Albert
I agree they are rude and taking advantage of people and Kevin o is one of the worst ones of the bunch and I think that they all enjoy what they are doing, taking advantage of people. Kevin Flannery and Robert are the only good ones out of all of them. I say again, they are rude, you are right.
I feel like this is false advertising
Tue, 10/20/2009 - 05:04 — albert8The producers of the new ABC reality series Shark Tank are on a nationwide search to discover the next successful - and possibly wealthy - entrepreneurs, inventors, businesspersons, dreamers, promoters, creators and innovators. In each episode, budding entrepreneurs are given the unprecedented chance to make their business ideas come true. Be sure to include your name, age, contact info, and a drawing or brief description of your idea.
This Is telling you that drawings are acceptable.
I feel like this is false advertising because I have not seen one person on the show yet who just has a drawing of their idea, it's only been people who have already invested money in their ideas. The person who only has a drawing does not have a chance, and Kevin O. Said that if you have not invested money that he would not invest money into it, and this was on last night's show.(September 6th). Robert said that Kevin was giving viewers the wrong impression of the show. I felt like when I was getting into this program and telling everyone about the show, that I might have a chance. I was basically fooling myself. I feel like my ideas are a lot more useful than most of the ideas that have already been shown on the show. For instance, I have thought up ideas for safety for children, like a safety lighter, so that children could not light it or start a fire with it, it would only be for a person who smokes to light a cigarette. Also, I came up with an idea to keep children safe at the beach, and I have 124 signatures from when I did a walk survey at the beach, and signatures from friends and family. I thought that the production of this show would give an opportunity to someone who has not had the money to invest into their idea. I was looking for this to help me since I have had two heart attacks and have lost my home to foreclosure and also lost my car, and I am trying to help my wife as she is the only one who is bringing in any income right now and she is taking care of my medical expenses. I sent this litter to abc and they never even sent me a reply
If selected, five real-life, tough investors could be willing to part with their own hard-earned cash and give you the funding you need to jumpstart your idea. Please include your name, age, contact info, a recent photo, and a brief, NON-CONFIDENTIAL description of your idea. Good luck.

I sent an e-mail similar to this one to ABC to let them know what Kevin O said on air, and I never got a response from the casting dept. of SharkTank. I feel like someone should have responded to my e-mail, but no one did. It was my understanding that this show was to help those who did not have the money to start their own inventions and put them on the market. It seems that these millionaires only want people who have already invested thousands in their ideas, according to what I heard Kevin O. say on the Sept. 6th show. They should have let the public know that they were only looking for people who have already invested money in their ideas, if they had, I would not have even wasted my time to try to get my idea to Shark Tank. I could only imagine how many other people had good ideas, but they could not get on the show either, because they did not invest enough money in their ideas.
Will Shark Tank be as good
Fri, 08/07/2009 - 14:17 — PhantomLordWill Shark Tank be as good as the show it is copying, Dragons Den on BBC? Only time will tell.
