Happiness is a warm TV

Can "The Millionaire Matchmaker" find love in New York?

Bookmark and Share

Patti Stanger, "The Millionaire Matchmaker" (Bravo, 9 tonight) is thinner, single, and in New York this season, but no worries, the changes haven't changed her approach to helping the loveless.

Sure, the accents are different, and maybe there are fewer blondes, but it seems -- despite the big deal Bravo is making of the shift -- millionaires are the same no matter the coast. Like, the older average-looking men want hot young things who have no real interest in them.

That's becomes clear in the first episode when Patti's first challenge is fixing up a Staten Island website owner who, at 40, is looking for love but using, as Patti would say, his 'picker' rather than his brain. The second person she's trying to fix up is a woman who clearly must be on show only to promote her website because she doesn't seem to be even trying. And that's why I'm not linking to her site, so there!

The biggest change, it turns out, is that Allison has left the company, and so the move to NY (which is temporary) brings a pretty blonde intern who, it seems, will bring Patti to a boil with her incompetence.

The best thing about "Matchmaker" is that it really is a primer on how to date, illustrating that a solid relationship starts with a mix of chemistry, thoughtfulness and hard work. She can take that lesson to any coast.
