There's a lot of talk these days about "keeping it real." And of course, there's Dave Chappelle's warning about the woes of when keeping it real goes wrong.
Which brings me to "Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is," which starts its third season tonight at 10pm on BET.
Starting its third season tonight at 10pm on BET, the show features Cole and her family. Frankie, her mother, who was in jail in season one for charges related to a lifetime of drug abuse that led to her abandoning Cole and other half-siblings. She is not completely ready to face all the damage she's done and she has a propensity for removing her false teeth anytime she feels like it.
There's also Neffe, Cole's sister, who was raped, is a single mother who at the end of last season got pregnant and spoke openly of getting an abortion. She is angry and troubled, but also sweet and she is really, really trying to pull herself together. And she doesn't expect her rich sister to pay her way through life.
We see Keyshia trying to forge a career and rebuild her broken family. It can be overwhelming. And, sometimes, horrifying.
You be the judge of whether singer Keyshia Cole's reality show is brave truth telling or just plain wrong.
Then after that, you can watch a one-hour special of the new series "Brothers to Brutha," the follows the lives of the Harrell brothers, a cute new boy group that just got a deal with Island Def Jam records.
The first two episodes include two family fist fights, hints of alcoholism, men crying and good old family love. Yep, it's a bucket of crazy too.
"Brothers to Brutha" premieres next Tuesday at 10:30pm.

Assistant Features Editor Adrienne Johnson Martin would like to have her life turned into an animated cartoon.
