It was only a matter of time before the suddenly trendy spate of hoarding shows (like this one and this one) splintered off into the subcategory of animal hoarding.
Hoarding is sad enough when someone's house is filled to the gills with old magazines, dirty clothes, broken toys and various garbage. But when hoarding involves animals, it's even more excruciating. That's why I'm not sure I can watch the new series debuting on Animal Planet next week.
"Confessions: Animal Hoarding" is a six-part look at animal hoarding, examining both the psychological issues of the people doing the hoarding, the pets affected by it.
Animal Planet says each episode delves into the hearts and minds of the hoarders, and that they also offer opportunities for family members and friends to help loved ones with these problems. In the show, they coordinate task-force interventions with teams of psychologists, veterinarians, animal welfare experts, and family and friends.

For more information on animal hoarding, check out this site from the ASPCA or if you know someone who needs help, contact your local SPCA group.
"Confessions: Animal Hoarding" begins Wednesday, July 21, at 9 p.m. on Animal Planet.
