'American Idol' auditions come to Charlotte

Bookmark and Share

The last time “American Idol” held auditions in North Carolina -- Greensboro in 2005 -- the state ended up with three singers in that season’s Top 10.

The Tar Heel state will get another chance to load the deck with homegrown talent on June 19, when “Idol” makes an audition pit stop in Charlotte.

The open call auditions for Season 12 take place at the Time Warner Cable Arena and require pre-registration either Sunday, June 17 or Monday, June 18. You’ll need two forms of ID to register, along with a signed release form available at the AmericanIdol.com website. No overnight camping inside or outside the venue will be allowed.

“Idol” auditions are open to those ages 15-28.

The on-camera judges will not be at the Charlotte audition, just “Idol” producers.

North Carolina has a rich tradition for producing “American Idol” talent. Fantasia Barrino of High Point won in Season 3 and Garner’s Scotty McCreery won the title in Season 10. Raleigh’s Clay Aiken was a runner up in Season 2.

Those Season 5 auditions in Greensboro gave us Chris Daughtry of McLeansville, who finished fourth, Kellie Pickler of Albemarle, who finished sixth, and Bucky Covington of Rockingham, who came in eighth.

Anoop Desai of Chapel Hill finished Season 8 in a tie for sixth place.

Other audition cities this summer are Los Angeles, San Antonio, Newark, Chicago, New Orleans and Oklahoma City.
