With six teams left, the experienced AR watcher thinks "non-elimination round." Which kind of sucks the fun out of an episode.
After a respite in Cambodia, the teams were off to Delhi, India. Brother and sister duo Nick & Starr are the first to leave, and we learn that Starr and Dallas of mother and son duo Toni & Dallas have a little flirtation going. Dallas would very much like to get his swerve on but as he says "my mom's the worst wing man ever." The attraction, though seems to be a good thing. It almost seems Dallas moves quickly this week just so he can keep up with Starr.
As the teams all meet at the travel agent to buy tickets, they get a chance to go online and do some research on India. It seems to help. The teams seem to know many people speak English in India and no one says anything especially dumb. The divorcees even make an informed funny after seeing all the cattle in the traffic congested road: "Cows are holy in India. I guess that's why they're not worried about getting hit."
The first road block (done by one person) was to paint a rickshaw green, first covering it in newspaper so as not to paint the windows. The frat boys note that Terrence of newly dating Terrence & Sarah is controlling. "Who lets their wife do body work?" Apparently, the frat boys love those traditional gender roles.
Terrence was cracking the whip on Sarah, but to witness true controlling behavior one had to turn to Tina & Ken, the separated couple. Tina spent most of the show relentlessly directing every move Ken made. At the travel agency, she told him to "sit over there and eat or something," while she worked the Web. Apparently, Tina has no use for those traditional gender roles.
The frat boys, who have proven inept at the most simple of tasks, inexplicably finish painting their rickshaws first. They lead the teams to the next stop, a hotel where they'll get a clue from a doorman.
The doorman clue offers a detour, launder money or launder clothes. The money task meant going to a banquet hall where a wedding was taking place, making a necklace of 10 rupi notes totaling $780 and placing it on a groom. The clothes task meant using a charcoal heated iron to press some laundry.
Terrence & Sarah and Ken & Tina do the money task, while the other teams went for the clothes task, including the frat boys who soon learn the downside of sticking to traditional gender roles. They could neither iron nor fold. (Apparently, this is a common defect in frat boys. Dallas, a whiz with the iron, noted this. Ladies: take note. Mothers: train your sons.)
In the end, Ken & Tina came in last. But it was indeed a non-elimination round, which means next week they'll get a speed bump, an extra task only they will have to perform.
Then something happens in the post race interview with Ken & Tina. Ken is talking about how they'll have to work harder to get back into the race, how it's not just a race, it's bigger. And then his throat catches. He's emotional. He really thinks this race could save his marriage! He really wants to save his marriage even though his wife has come across as a controlling shrew! He loves this harpy!
Even Tina is touched, lowering her overplucked eyebrows, comforting Ken and wiping away a tear we can't see.
