Amazon is said to be gearing up for the release of its next Kindle e-book reader in August perhaps hoping to capitalize on students returning to school.
A report from Bloomberg cites two inside sources who say the device will be thinner and have a more responsive screen with sharper detail. The sources declined to be identified because the new Kindle specifics are not yet public.
Earlier in the year Amazon acquired touch screen firm Touchco, but reportedly the next Kindle will not have a touch screen. Also, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said recently that a color screen is not yet ready for the Kindle. “I’ve seen some stuff in the laboratory, but it’s not quite ready for prime-time production,” Bezos said the company’s annual shareholders meeting Monday.
I take that to mean not in August, but I'll guess Amazon is hoping for something new to release during the holiday season.
