Free OSX app designed to free the creative flow

Bookmark and Share

If you are like me and have difficulty filtering out distractions while writing then Ommwriter may interest you. This free OS X application masks the desktop with an image to hide desktop clutter and employ a minimalist interface. The app suggests a soundtrack for the best experience. There are a few preloaded images and audio files included, but they can be customized. The sounds included a variety of chirping birds, chimes, lapping water and a few others.

I actually enjoyed seeing the type spill across the austere screen with most of the ambient soundtracks provided. The developers say we have adapted our work habits around the computer rather than the other way around. Ommwriter is their tool to turn the tables and reclaim the simplicity of the process.

Not being the most accurate typist, I did miss the lack of even a basic spell check at first, but I can see how it might inhibit the process Ommwriter is intending to free. However, you can enable check as you type by right clicking.

Ommwriter is definitely with trying. The free software can be downloaded here. Check the video below.
