Apps, online video offer unprecedented Olympics coverage

Let the games begin, but you might need to bump the limits on your data plan. During the 2012 Olympics fans get unprecedented access thanks to mobile apps and online access.

The Olympic opening ceremonies for the 2012 games begin at 4:30 p.m. today. NBC will re-broadcast the event on the air at 7:30 p.m. tonight, but you don't have to wait until then. You can view a live stream from the London games on your computer, smartphone or mobile device.

Video
NBC's Olympics site will live stream the 4:30 p.m. opening celebrations. It also offers video of every event to subscribers with a cable, satellite or telco TV subscription that includes MSNBC and CNBC.

On YouTube, a live stream will be available on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) channel free of charge. The stream offers 11 different HD broadcasts with 2,200 hours of live event coverage.

Apps
Checkout the Official London 2012 Results app that features live updates, calendar schedules, and details of sports, medal tables and athlete profiles.

The Team USA app provides in-depth information on every Team USA athlete, and lets fans send personal messages to athletes throughout the games, purchase USA Olympic gear and receive daily updates on Team USA.

I love the Olympics! Couple that with the fact that I am a geek and a tech junkie, then I must ask: Is this heaven?!
