Amber Alerts are credited with helping located 525 missing children. The Justice Department and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children announced Wednesday that Facebook users can sign up to receive Facebook Amber Alerts in their region.
Facebook who subscribe to the alerts will receive Amber Alerts as updates as they would see one from a friend.
Hoping to harness the power of social media, the announcement came on the eve of 15th anniversary of the kidnapping and murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman for whom the program is named.
