Don't miss: John Mulaney stand-up special

Not much more to say about this new Comedy Central stand-up special, "John Mulaney: New in Town," besides it's funny. Very, very funny.

Mulaney is a 29-year-old writer for "Saturday Night Live" (he's the brains behind Bill Hader's "Stefon" character). He's a little nerdy and not really what you'd call edgy (at least not on basic cable) -- but he's still hilarious. His riff on the acting skills of "Law & Order: SVU" actor Ice T had me cracking up. "You mean, it's like when someone eats a lot of chocolate cake, and they can't stop eating chocolate cake?" You'll see what I mean.

This is Mulaney's first one-hour special (he was featured in a half-hour "Comedy Central Presents" special in 2009, which I'm going to look for online right now). It won't be his last.

There's a clip from the show below.

Weird Al Yankovic Live - The Alpocalypse Tour (9pm, Comedy Central) - Weird Al Yankovic performs songs from his 2011 album "Alpocalypse," including "Perform This Way," and familiar favorites such as "Fat" and "Amish Paradise." Filmed in Toronto at Massey Hall in July.

Love's Everlasting Courage (9pm, Hallmark) - Continuing from the "Love Begins" movie, farmer Clark Davis (Wes Brown) struggles to repay a loan and save his land during a drought. To make matters worse, his wife (Julie Mond) becomes gravely ill after agreeing to take a job to bring in more income.

Home by Novogratz (9:30pm, HGTV) - The Novogratz duo upgrade a living-dining room in a luxury apartment for two bachelors. They get bright blue paint, unique art pieces, vintage and modern furniture, and a bar.

Bedlam (10pm, BBC America) - Residents of Bedlam Heights apartments are haunted by ghosts, one of whom threatens a woman who lives and works there. In this series opener, the woman is visited by her adopted cousin who reportedly can see ghosts and glimpses of past events.

Saturday Night Live (11:29pm, NBC) - Recent Emmy-winner Melissa McCarthy hosts. Lady Antebellum is the musical guest.

What to Watch on Monday: Your favorite fall shows are back!

Dancing with the Stars (8pm, ABC) - Season 13 opens with 12 new celebrities competing, including Chaz Bono, Ricki Lake, Ron Artest, Nancy Grace, David Arquette, and Hope Solo.

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - The seventh season opens with two new back-to-back episodes. The mystery wedding prompts the friends to reminisce about things. Also, Marshall gets his dream job but is terrified videos from his past will crush his hopes.

The Sing-off (8pm, NBC) - In the Season 3 premiere, 8 a cappella groups perform. Sara Bareilles joins Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman on the judging panel.

Two and a Half Men (9pm, CBS) - In part one of Season 9's two-part opener, Ashton Kutcher joins the cast as brokenhearted billionaire Walden Schmidt. It is widely rumored that tonight's show will also kill off Charlie's Sheen's character.

2 Broke Girls (9:30pm, CBS) - A new series about two struggling waitresses at a Brooklyn diner who are trying to save enough money to open their own cupcake shop. Adrienne has more info.

Roast of Charlie Sheen (10pm, Comedy Central) - After you finish watching the sitcom Sheen was fired from, you can tune in for the star's scathing "salute." Roasters include Jeffrey Ross, Anthony Jeselnik, Steve-O, Harvey Levin, and Mike Tyson.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Are we really worried that Beckett didn't survive last season's gunshot cliffhanger? No. What we really want to know is if she heard Castle tell her he loves her after she was shot. In addition to the personal drama, there's the hunt for the sniper who tried to kill her. Also, there's a new by-the-book captain in charge (Penny Johnson Jerald, "24"), and she's not too fond of Castle hanging with the cops.

The Playboy Club (10pm, NBC) - A new series set in the legendary Playboy Club in 1960s Chicago. Tonight, high-powered attorney and club key holder (Eddie Cibrian) comes to the aid of a new Bunny after she's assaulted by the leader of a the Bianchi crime family. Worth checking out?

Hawaii Five-O (10pm, CBS) - The second season begins with McGarrett in prison awaiting trial for the governor's murder. Meanwhile, Kono is suspended from the force, pending an internal investigation for allegedly stealing department money.

John Tedesco promising "you ain't seen nothing yet"

Wake County school board member John Tedesco's colleagues weren't joking when they repeatedly said he was charged up on caffeine when he gave a fiery speech at last Thursday's Northern Wake Republican Club meeting.

During the speech, Tedesco praised the board majority's actions since December 2009 in "revamping public education." He also ripped into liberals, including what he called their "unholy trinity" of the NAACP, the Great Schools in Wake Coalition and Raleigh FIST.

"They will try and scare people," Tedesco said of the opposition. "People use fear. These are cowards who understand that anger can be power as long as there is a victim on TV. So they will strike fear."

What to Watch on Saturday: NBA All-Stars are a slam dunk.

Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards (7pm, GMC) - The Gospel Music Channel airs the 12th annual awards show honoring gospel music legends Pastor Shirley Caesar and the group Commissioned. Performances by Ledisi, Lucinda Moore, The Soul Seekers, and others. Airs again at 8:30pm.

Must Love Cats (8pm, Animal Planet) - Host John Fulton checks out domestic and wild cats living in harmony in Mississippi, a popular cat on TV in Little Rock, and a cat scratching-tree builder in Kansas. I noticed that night footage (so funny) from last week's episode of the klepto-kitty from California made national news this week.

NBA All-Star Night (8:30pm, TNT) - Live from Los Angeles, watch the 3-point shootout, the skills challenge, and the ever-popular slam dunk contest. Scheduled dunkers include Blake Griffin, DeMar DeRozan, Serge Ibaka, and JaVale McGee. There's also a "Shooting Stars" event with NBA legends and WNBA players.

Being Human UK (9pm, BBC America) - Not to be confused with the American remake which airs on Syfy, the original UK version of "Being Human" premieres its third season tonight.

America's Most Wanted (9pm, Fox) - In a special episode, host John Walsh attempts to find out what makes serial killers tick.

48 Hours Mystery (10pm, CBS) - Two murders are investigated and the probe leads from the Playboy Mansion to Wall Street.

Patrice O'Neal: Elephant in the Room (10pm, Comedy Central) - Comedian Patrice O'Neal performs in New York City. Topics include infidelity, safe sex, and harassment.

An Idiot Abroad (10pm, Science) - Tonight's episode of this always funny series sends Karl Pilkington to Egypt. I think now we have an alternate theory of what may have started that revolution.

Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear recap

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert held their joint Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear today in Washington.

As they promised, it wasn't political at all, it was basically an extended combined version of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report," with Stewart and Colbert comically debating the virtues of reasonableness versus fear. Plus a bunch of special guests and a great speech on tolerance by Stewart at the end. If anyone got the sharp end of the Stewart/Colbert stick, it was the media -- mostly the 24-hour cable news media (and no, it wasn't just Fox News getting criticism).

The rally was at times boring and tedious (thanks for nothing, "Mythbusters" guys) but often really entertaining (check out the photo gallery).

I'm not writing a traditional recap, but I did live-tweet the rally (@WarmTV) and I've pasted my tweets and retweets below. (UPDATED: Clips from the rally have been posted at Comedy Central).

The rally opened at noon with The Roots and John Legend performing, and I started tweeting right after that. Here's what happened:

Restoring sanity and/or fear from your sofa

If you're not traveling up to D.C. this weekend to help restore sanity and/or fear in person, you can still keep up with goings on via television.

Comedy Central and C-Span will both broadcast the rally live in its entirety Saturday starting at noon.

In addition to hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, expect performances from The Roots, Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) with Mavis Staples, and Sheryl Crow. There will also be some surprise guests, a poetry reading from Sam Waterston (gotta tune in for that alone!) and a benediction from Don Novello (aka Father Guido Sarducci).

CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News may also cover portions of the rally, if something newsworthy happens.

Here's a more detailed schedule from The Washington Post.

If you want to follow along via Twitter, use the hashtag #Rally4Sanity.

"Last Comic Standing" judge Greg Giraldo dies

Sad news. Comedian Greg Giraldo died today from a drug overdose. The 44-year-old comedian was a regular on Comedy Central and one of the judges on NBC's "Last Comic Standing." Giraldo was hospitalized this past weekend for what his agent called an accidental prescription drug overdose.

Click below to watch a short clip of Giraldo at a Comedy Central Roast for Chevy Chase (and yes, it's supposed to be mean). It's not suitable for family viewing. (The funnier ones -- roasting Larry the Cable Guy, Joan Rivers, and David Hasselhoff are really not suitable for family viewing.)

It's back to the "Futurama"

Following in the footsteps of "Family Guy," Matt Groening's "Futurama" gets resurrected Thursdays at 10, because of great success in reruns and on DVD, particularly 4 DVD movies.

Unlike "Family Guy," it isn't being resurrected on Fox. Instead you can watch it on cable station Comedy Central (Perhaps, Fox's animation cash is sitting in Seth MacFarlane's pocket?)

So there will be 26 new episodes of the adventures of Philip  J. Fry (Billy West), a pizza delivery boy accidentally frozen in suspended animation in the year 2000, who wakes up  a thousand years later. He's still crazy for Leela (voiced by Katey Sagal), the hottest one-eyed pilot you'll ever meet and is buds with Bender (John DiMaggio), a crude (as in nasty) robot. In fact, all the original cast returns.

Jon Stewart: "Thank you, South Carolina!" (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart's takedown of Helen Thomas last night was pretty spot-on, but what had me literally laughing out loud was the final bit of the segment, where Stewart thanks our southern neighbors for never failing to cheer us up with some ridiculous South Carolina scandal news when serious world news gets a little too depressing. Watch for the stuff at the end about the Nikki Haley / Jack Conway race, especially when Stewart gets to Larry Marchand's role in Haley's alleged affair.
