Schedule set for Greater Neuse River 4A Conference volleyball tournament

The Greater Neuse River 4-A Conference volleyball tournament will begin Saturday at Knightdale High School. Play continues on Monday and Wednesday. Regular-season champion Garner is a huge favorite in the event, having won its last 31 matches against GNRC opponents.

Garner vs. South Johnston volleyball match cancelled; Garner-East Wake match moved

Today's prep volleyball match between Garner and South Johnston has been cancelled. It will not be made up. Garner's scheduled Tuesday meeting with East Wake has also been moved to Oct. 5.

Chapel Hill. Carrboro open with wins

Chapel Hill withstood the 239 yards rushing mounted by South Granville's Josh Bailey and opened the season with a 19-13 win Friday night on the road. In other games involving area teams, both played in-county, Carrboro out-lasted Central Davidson 47-36 and Orange looked strong in downing Person 42-14. East Chapel Hill lost to East Wake 28-21. Northwood was stung by East Duplin, 56-6, and Cedar Ridge fell 57-37 at Eastern Alamance.

Soccer scrimmages on Saturday

The fifth annual Kick It for Cancer boys soccer showcase is scheduled for Saturday at CASL's WRAL soccer complex in Raleigh. The event is expected to involve 22 teams.

West Johnston, Knightdale to meet for final GNRC baseball playoff spot tonight

Regular-season play in the Greater Neuse River 4-A Conference baseball ranks concluded on Monday but there's still one post-season spot left to be decided. West Johnston and Knightdale tied for fifth in the league, both with 6-8 records. Those two teams will meet today (Tuesday) at Clayton High School at 6 to see who moves into Friday's NCHSAA 4-A playoffs against Southern Pines Pinecrest.

Clayton, Harnett Central, East Wake and Garner claimed the league's other playoff spots. The final league standings...

Games rescheduled because of today's rain

Girls Soccer

Clayton and East Wake will play soccer Tuesday at 5 at East Wake, instead of today. The two teams' second meeting later this season will now be played at Clayton.

Smithfield-Selma and Harnett Central WILL play tonight as scheduled at 6.

Softball

The Cleveland at Corinth Holders softball game has been rescheduled for April 11 at Corinth Holders at 5.

Boys Tennis

Today's Smithfield-Selma vs. Clayton match has been postponed until tomorrow at 4.

Garner shifts basketball games with East Wake & Harnett Central

Garner has made two changes to its prep basketball schedule. The Trojans will now host Harnett Central on Monday, Jan. 31, and host East Wake on Feb. 7, another Monday.
